Data wasn't missing. The black box on ships is not like ones on planes.

There's a one minute gap in data per what they say. 😃

My guess there's a lot more missing 😀 a whole lot more

I've missed this news , I rarely listen to the news nowadays because its always about war and politics.

But what a terrible accident for those on the bridge , hopefully some survived if not all ...

No. As there was nothing powering the instruments they weren't doing anything. Meaning there was no data to record.

That's not what The NTSB people said is it 😀

I dunno. Seems kinda stupid to me to have redundancies for powering the black box but no redundancies for powering the instruments. In fact, it seems so stupid to me that I have an extremely hard time believing that that level of oversight could happen and no one stop and think "this makes no freaking sense". What the hell would be the point of having a black box and equipping it with a redundant power supply if there's no instrument data that can be recorded if the primary power source fails? Now I admit that I'm saying this as someone who actually has an education in electronics and data recording systems and has done designs for analogous systems, so I may be expecting more from engineers and designers than they deserve.

the NTSB says that the VDR data shows,

NTSB: Data consistent with power loss before Key Bridge strike; crew interviews ongoing

this is a informational site for Maritime Industry, from the VDR section. take note that if the emergency power source fail or is not running it only records audio.

[ex]If the ship’s emergency source of electrical power supply fails, the VDR should continue to record Bridge Audio from a dedicated reserve source of power for a period of 2 h. At the end of this 2 h period, all recording should cease automatically.
Voyage Data Recorder (VDR) on a Ship Explained

i suspect as i said in my earlier post when power fails the ships computers have to reboot, there is no input to the VDR and if it's cutting on and off, that will cause even longer delays for signals from the sensors to reach the VDR.

The pilot really needs to be commended for his quick thinking. As soon as the ship lost power he pulled out his cell phone and called harbor pilot dispatch and told them they needed to get the bridge closed.

The time between the bridge being blocked and it collapsing was 90 seconds.

If the pilot had waited to see if power would come back on or did anything else first, it's very likely many more would have died.

I wonder if the NTSB is looking at the networking and communication records for any signs of cyber intrusion.

With the way Biden said that the US was going to pay for the repairs, and the way the FBI seemed to know that this is not terror related, so quickly, I really wonder if a whole lot was already known by a select few, and the rest of us are just being kept in the dark.

That Information you just Linked Almost Confirms this was an ATTACK on the U.S. Military and NOT a Accident . The Feds would Never Admit that though and will just Release to the Public a BS Cover Story to Quell the Peoples Fears .

Why would the government never release that information?

Aren't you guys always saying that most politicians are looking for an excuse to go to war so they can please their MIC masters?

Why wouldn't Biden want to reveal we had experienced a terror attack so he could get that post-9/11 Bush bump?

you can bet the first job the Army Corps of Engineers are going to do is clear the debris off the ship get it moved, then clear a channel for the shipping to resume.

in the meantime there are plenty of ports on the east coast that can handle the Pentagon's Rapid Wartime Response even if they have to use multiple ports. and it wouldn't surprise me none if the cargo that would go on those ships is already being redirected and loaded up on train cars headed to those ports and new ships being leased, and U.S. Navy reassigning ships to the temporary ports.

I doubt whether the insurance would pay out if it was a terror attack or act of war, so Joe picked up the tab to stop any problems.

I though the obvious place to keep the fleet would be in san Francisco with the reserve fleet.

Critical instrumentation almost always has a redundant power in these situations. Usually a ups but they provide little time.

Organisations of all kinds should have a contingency plan, so I'm sure they have one for a case like this.

Did they suspect an attack was in the making,

Presidential Executive Order issued March 22, 2024

EO Maritime Cyber Security

If it was a Cyber attack the current administration has every reason to declare it's not so due to its weakness across the board on most all issues including national security as a major public perception.
