Reality is Russia still fights like it is ww2. They are in an artillery war with Ukraine. However NATO wouldn't be in an artillery conflict. For the west artillery is not a major part of war doctrine. NATO would rake out Russian Air defense smash though what little airforce they have left and use the air to destroy Russian artillery and troops.

Luckily for Russia they are not fighting NATO or this fight would have been over already. Imagine a country with a tenth of the equipment and population fought Russia to a stand still. I have zero doubt that as long as Russia is willing to take huge losses they will eventually win. But in winning they will ultimately lose as what will be left of Russia won't be enough to stop the Chinese from slowly swallowing up Russian territory. It's not a coincidence that in many parts of Russia there are more Chinese than Russians.

And the real problem is Russia is losing men they can't afford to lose causing a future population crisis. Russia has 144 million vs Ukraines population of 43 million. Russia could lose 1 to 1 destroy every Ukrainian and still have a population of 100 million. However only about 60 percent of that would be ethnic Russians. So they are slowly making themselves go extinct. By the year 2050 the Russian ethnic group will be unsustainable and be just a foot note in history books.
