Electric vehicles and the energy issue, well, I'm going to go way out on a limb here and guess that you are a greenie. An environmentalist, believes in Climate change being man made, and staunchly against those who aren't on the same page. If that's wrong, please let me know. But as our environment is fragile, and we DO need to be sure we keep that at the forefront of our decisions, for the future inhabitants of this planet, we also need to make intelligent choices, and be sure we have solved the major problems we have before we react in a crisis manor. Do we have the right technology today to transition to all electric cars? Based on how things went over the winter, I'd say that's a negative ghost rider. And being from the way, way north, you should take very good notes on that one. Is our infrastructure able to deal with those changes today? Again, negative. If that's the direction we need to go, then a lot of work has to be done first and foremost, long before we mandate anything. the term 'putting the cart before the horse' comes to mind.

EV's are a non-starter...pun semi-intended.

Based on nothing more than the cost to own and use one environmentally and financially far outweighs any benefits they may provide. They're just plain dumb at this point in time. Maybe at some point in the future when they can figure out how to cheaply and cleanly produce the electricity needed to charge them they might be viable.

But I'm hoping for a hydrogen fuel cell comeback. They only reason they didn't take off when first introduced is the lack of refill infrastructure available - hydrogen fueling stations. But it's a trivial investment to make if the carmakers and the public are behind it.

They have plenty of power and the only waste product the produce is water. Zero emissions otherwise.

How is that not a perfect energy source?

I'm totally with you on hydrogen. But the sooper smart folks keep telling me it will never work. I really don't understand why they would even bother with electric if hydrogen was an option. It's the best of both worlds. ICE that will work in extreme conditions, and it's byproduct is water. What's not to love.

I wish I had made the list of people who claimed it was an ignorant idea, and that the idea that Stan Meyer came up with was totally impossible. I believe that at some point, it's going to be found that he did indeed have the answer to the biggest question and he was killed because of it. But then, I'm a right wing conspiracy nut, so there is that.

My way of thinking is from my life experiences. I assume yours are as well. (based on your growing up in the land of the moose)

I think you got some wrong ideas of how people on my side think of the whole "gender" thing. People all have the God Given right to be who and what they want to be. No laws or public stigma can change that. What (this is me speculating based on how I feel) seems to be the case is that children should not be able to make life altering decisions, such as changing gender roles. This isn't limiting them in who they want to be, It's offering them some time to mature, and fully understand what it is they are about to do. Kids make some dumb choices. Not because they are dumb, but because they lack life experience. that's not something against them, it's a simple fact, and one that is key to many things in a childs growth.

Electric vehicles and the energy issue, well, I'm going to go way out on a limb here and guess that you are a greenie. And lastly (not ignoring other answers, but working on the big ones) Equity as it stands today, is racism multiplied by a lot. A meritocracy where the most talented people are chosen for the most important positions is how you have the most effective system. Will there be some who just don't make the cut? Sure will. And they will have to find their place and accept that they won't be the head of a corporation or leading a nation. Not everyone is cut out for every job. But I do believe that everyone has value and if given the right circumstances, will find what they both love to do, and are good at. Some may not, due to many reasons, but not because of their appearance as much as because of their ability. We progress as a society by moving forward, and making things better. And rewarding apathy will not get is to a better place. IMHO.

Again, thanks for the conversation and I do hope that we can all start to talk TO each other more rather than AT each other.

Honestly I went opposite to most people. Most folks I know were liberal when young and more conservative as they get older and accumulate wealth. From a first election I could vote in I was hardcore conservative, and then as I got older I got much more liberal. In a way it was me coming to the realization that capitalism has some very serious issues of it's own. So does socialism. But I have learned that NEITHER system is the answer, you need a bit of both to make society work. And the pendulum will always swing. It happened in Canada (too many years of a Con government, people swing to the left. Too many years of a Lib government and people swing right. Same exact thing here in the US.

I agree that trans kids should not make physically-altering decisions, however none of my kid's trans friends have ever done that. They've talked about it. Then in the end they've all decided that was too life altering for where they were in their life. So, just to be clear I'm for rights for trans folks, but I am also against kids having surgery when they don't understand the implications. I'm also against trans folks competing in the other sex's sports. So maybe there is some middle ground on this one.

Yes, I would classify myself as somewhat of an environmentalist. I will always push for the technology that has the least impact on the planet, regardless of the impact it has on the economy or family's household finances.

this is why we need to talk more to each other rather than be polarized by our differences. After a few post back and forth, you and I have found that on one major sticking point that we both thought we were diametrically opposed on, in reality, we are very close. Makes you wonder how many other things we are closer on that we are apart.

If I could have the magic wand, all technology would benefit the environment, but I don't, and it doesn't. The best we can do is try to be environmentally conscience, while continuing to improve our surroundings and lifestyle.

A simple cabin in the woods, some livestock and a small farm would suit me fine. In fact, after years of the rat race, that's about what I have now, and it's very relaxing and enjoyable. Cheap too.

I have said it quite a few times, the pendulum swing back to the right after things went this far left, scares me a good bit. The journey back from Clown World might have lots of pot holes in the road.

Joe Biden is trying to paint himself as a compassionate person. He is going to have a port built in Gaza so food can be brought in to the hungry people there.

Why is he trying to paint himself as a compassionate person vs doing what makes sense given the current info?

I keep thinking calling on the international community to pressure HAMAS to surrender and return the hostages would end the war in a few minutes and should be the direction taken, but I'm not a war guy, so there is that.

No doubt that is one possible end game but in applying the correct triage order to those 2 scenarios the humanitarian crisis taking place is more critical then a process that is going to take a few weeks or months.

If HAMAS surrendered today, what reason would the IDF have to go into RAFA tomorrow?

Blows my mind too how some people will refuse to look at all sides of a matter.

I guess some people only have time to live in an echo chamber, for whatever reason.

New RNC leadership has just been elected.

The foundation is being laid for making America even greater than it was the last time Donald Trump was at the helm.

It is now critical for the Senate to become MAGA majority, and the MAGA majority of the House is increased... Or Trump nominees will not be approved, tying one hand behind his back, like it was during his first term.

The down ballot candidates are going to have trouble winning any seats when all of the GOP's funds are going towards Trump's legal bills.

I'd disagree but admit I'm far from perfect. I'm sure if I thought long enough I could find some examples of myself being like that, or have some pointed out to me.

Not hating on you just for the record.

Just found your post that I replied to amusing because you've outright told me in the past you don't have any interest in looking into this thing or that thing having to do with a subject. And you're go to, at least in some threads that come to mind, was to refer to all opposing views as far right Christian views.

Anyway, have a wonderful day. Please send some of that California son North. Apparently I brought the cold with me from the East Coast.

I'm good -- I'm a tough broad.

Not agreeing is one thing.

Attempts at insult and name calling another (not your style
)

I like a cheeky jab here and there (as you know) but plain insults and name calling gets nobody anywhere in terms of trying to change a mind or understand perspective.

Other than to offer humanitarian aide they wouldn't have a reason.

Hypothetical scenarios are easy though.

What if HAMAS didnt attack Israel in October?
