You have discounted that any other factors would result in increasing GDP. For example massively increasing military spending.

Thus the imports......

You sound out of your depth.

They simply aren't congruent with sanctions.

And your opinions really aren't compelling either.

The link showing imports are down?

Your argument is based round Sanctions being the only factor at play and you think I am out my depth.

I notice you cut out the part about you claiming I said sanctions are are nothing to do with GDP So we can confirm that's another false claim.

You did make that argument.

In response to me saying rising GDP does not mean sanctions improved the economy you replied

I say that it does.

If a nation is sanctioned, why would the GDP go....up?

You say because of military spending, that's fair.

So I went with imports as Russia while with many resources, still relies on imports.

...which were up.

Now the effects of sanctions are to restrict those inflows and outflows, agreed?

Agreed but there are many factors that affect GDP. Not just sanctions.

GDP going up does not mean that sanctions actually improved the economy.

Also imports are down since 2022.

I see.

You're hung up on my admittedly bad wording.

How about this.

Did sanctions not curb Russias GDP growth?

Bad wording you have defended over multiple posts.

And no we can't say they didn't curb GDP growth either. GDP without the sanctions could have been much higher. Its virtually impossible to separate the impact of sanctions from other parts of the economy and I would be hugely sceptical of any source claiming with confidence how much the sanctions did or did not work.

However Russia wasn't trading with the west out of they goodness of its heart and restricted access to western markets will have had a negative impact of some level on the Russian economy.

ETA _ your links confirm what I said about imports being down.

This is stupidity squared.

You said that sanctions don't curb GDP growth while also saying that "it's virtually impossible to separate the impact of sanctions from other parts of the economy."

Again where did I say sanctions don't curb GDP growth? Something else you just made up.?

In the quoted text I say you can't say that.

ETA and again your charts back up what i said thanks

Yes.

Read it again.

You said sanctions did not curb GDP growth.

I said we can't say that.

How is that me saying sanction don't curb GDP growth?

Your charts show imports are down since the invasion in 2022.

It also shows that exports are way down, which is the bigger deal when discussing how the sanctions are impacting Russia's economy. Nobody is buying Russian products.

I also wouldn't be so optimistic,
but for more general reasons.

for one, I am not convinced that evidence implicating Putin would have necessarily proved as incendiary for USA and UN as many have implied.

But more to the point, the longer these current conflicts drag on, the more chances there are for military/ fighters to do something foolish or reprehensible to the wrong nation.

The real threat as I see it is is still in play; more nations stepping in to help nations at war.
More chances for a missile to hit the wrong target, or for the slighted party to attack the nation that's helping their enemy.

We're 1 terrorist attack away from a war with Palestine, which would probably spark war with multiple Arab speaking nations, maybe even Morrocco.
Iran would love to have a piece of that if they had backup, and I think Russia might gladly help Iran do that, at least on the downlow.
Maybe even openly at this point. Then at that point, China has enough motive to take us down.
If they thought they could do it without nukes and minimize casualties, I don't get a sense that there'd be all that much resistance.

I mean, Putin openly flaunted his burgeoning alliance with little Kimmy after all.

And speaking to the potential of a terrorist attack by Palestine or allies,
we already have our own citizens protesting, and a guy set himself on fire recently,
so if that's happening HERE, then surely there must be an even more intense anger towards the USA
brewing and seething in the Middle East. JS we could see something like that happen soon.
As screwed up as this sounds, we've almost been lucky that our terrorist mass shooters have consistently been crazy americans for so many years.
No one to go to war with that way.
Luck could run out though.

What exactly did he think was going to happen?
