Borders certainly need securing due to major national security risks drugs like fentanyl pose, terrorism, human trafficking, spying etc....

I don't understand the recent furore over allowing or banning use of barbed wire though - my limited understanding is barbed/razor wire is only a visual deterent or minor obstacle to slow down attacking troops in warfare so machine guns can be trained on them.

I can't find any clear info abroad but were they wanting to deploy loose spools of barbed wire or as part of a wider set of barriers and security/cameras etc.. to catch illegal immigrants or just something anyone with gloves and wire cutters can defeat?

Being from a tiny rainy island like the UK it's hard to fathom how it could hold a candle to the deterent the desert provides, but the current admins plans clearly aren't working either.

But this is what the current admin wanted, they worked pretty hard to get it too.

It is hard to search local news and see immigration stories. And we should be bitching as much as Texas. 62k should be enough.

They fixed the homeless problem with "The Houston Method", because that was a problem people saw, but the migrants are not counted as the homeless, and not smoking heroin off foil on the sidewalk in daylight.

They get deferred to the religious charities. Who shelter them, many times with host families. They all seem to find footing quickly.

The "influx" is old news and the most recent local story is from two weeks ago.

The migrants find their way to gaps in the wall from Mexico then cross into the U.S. and look for Border Patrol who will eventually document, process and release the migrants into the country with an immigration court date often years into the future.

They immediately document themselves though. They find BP, say asylum, and hope to join The Bureaucracy that is waiting 7 months for a work permit. Maybe find some 15-20/hour under the table thing from their cousin's brother-in-law's father's scrap yard.

So while you say, "liberals are waking up" I have to counter they don't even know the problem exists, because there is little importance placed on this crisis, and little affect on the daily lives of most people, unlike the homeless people that they saw, and were a problem.

Mostly it's, "Wait, what, there are 62,000 migrants? Are they all okay? Well that's good, I hope they can stay."

That is the average level of concern for the migrants. And we are a border city. Apparently it's smoothing out, and released state and local funding has allowed for better processing and greater temporary housing options. It's not even enough of a problem to make the news anymore.

Possibly in Arizona and Texas, and the rest of country, but we are off in Lalaland for the most part on this.

I realize the left's newz doesn't do anything that would negatively effect Joetatoe, but enough people know about this now, that it's not some fringe "vast right wing conspiracy", it's real and happening. And all it took was to send a busload to the rich folks vacationland and a few to NYC.

But the border is now a priority and voters understand that. How that will translate to the election, remains to be seen.
