The crowd contested the election result, it got violent, people were killed, and Trump was who told them to fight like hell.
If they had a good reason to contest the election, then maybe you can call it a protest.
Can you give me a good reason?

Insurrection, treason, and seditious conspiracy all fall under the same chapter on the US Code. Neither Section 3 nor the Treason Clause stipulate the someone guilty of treason is ineligible to hold office.
Do you believe that someone guilty of treason should be eligible to run for President?

President Trump on 1/6 - “Everyone here will soon be marching to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard”

Isn't it funny that the people that were in contact with Trump's team did have a plan to seize the Capitol and then begin taking over other government buildings once they had secured their location there?

If they think that then they should file complaints with their state election boards and let the process play out.
Just like we're seeing in Colorado, Maine, and other states.

Section 3 of the 14th amendment doesn’t require a court to convict somebody of insurrection to apply. Said somebody just has to have engaged in insurrection. This is why I’m saying I think the Supreme Court will have to either qualify 1/6/21 as a legitimate protest, which no court has, or agree with the states’ ruling.
Section 5.
The Congress shall have power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.
