that would be the courts, judicial branch. colorado court ruled it was an insurrection and then hgher court confirmed it. two courts now. that enough for history?

Honestly it's a good question and one that may be answered shortly. Section 3 of the 14th Amendment is pretty vague on how it's enforced. Other aspects of the 14th Amendment specify they're enforced by Congress.

On the other hand, the Constitution is very clear that the States are granted autonomy on how they run their elections.

But a state cannot make a decision for the entire country. Colorado can't say Jan6th was an Insurrection. And Florida can't say Jan6th was NOT an insurrection.

None of this is how anything works.
The federal government is afraid and are now changing the rules and making it up as they go.

My CAPS LOCK follows my emotion. If I want to stress a word, it's easier (ON ATS) to stress a word by capitalizing it, than it is to do a copy/paste of the word(s) into the "bold" or "Underline" box. Qaint old-time system, but annoying when you're in a hurry. Can't just drag over the word(s), click "b" and have that word Bolded, like modern software operates.
