It’s Beginning to Look a lot Like Christmas NOT

!!! Speaking of NOT… This is a long rumbling, so read on if you dare.

I went to a couple of local stores. I love Christmas, I love to decorate. As soon as Halloween is over, we skip right over Thanksgiving and start preparing for Christmas.

First store I stop is Target. I don’t know what the heck is going on with that store, but it seems ever since the bathroom issues, and their ultra liberal stances, something has gone very awry. First thing I noticed, black Christmas trees. Ok not everyone is a traditionalist, so a few different trees are ok. The thing is, it’s not just one, it was several, and they were so black it could suck any color out of your eyes. To go with the horrible black tree, were the darkest most opaque ornaments and decor you’d ever seen. Don’t take my word for it, take a look for yourself:

(Sorry not at my desk or I’d link photos)
That’s just a few, but take my word when I went through the aisle, I was like “what the Hell?!!!” It was very disturbing. I do understand trends, but this seemed even too much. I don’t think I was wrong because not a single person was buying a single one of those items.

So I thought to myself, ok I’ll go see some holiday lights. NOPE. Not a fan of LED lights, but there are good and bad ones of those too, and now it appears, only the most unnatural, blindingly bright, most artificial looking lights are sold there now.
Then I go over to clothing, there is a mannequin on display. I thought cute outfit, black top, black pants, black hat……Then it clicked. It is as if
The whole store was decorated like a funeral, all black, “Dark Winter” perhaps..

Then there was another display….. This time it was normal looking nutcrackers, but they were all black, as in African American if you will. I have zero problem with black Santas, black nutcrackers. The thing is there weren’t any white ones, none. I’m sure black folks felt that way for many years, but when you live in a predominantly white area I don’t think a lot of people are going to be buying a black nutcracker. I don’t think these nutcrackers were connected to the other somber decor, but still very odd.

Then went to several more stores. Went to a makeup store. So many of the things I wanted to look at were locked up or unavailable due to shoplifters. Then went to another store……… an overstock type of store. Lots and lots of Christmas decor, and guess what they were filled to the brim with? Black Santas! Again, no problem with Black Santas and think if I were a black person, it would be cute to decorate with, but I’m not, and neither are the 99.9% of my neighbors. I’m Asian and if they only had Asian Santas I’d feel the same way, I really would. It’s weird and makes me wonder what kind of strange marketing is going on.

I’m not forgetting about the big box stores. Some of you may not remember this, but there was a time when artificial trees were cheaper than real trees! Hard to believe now right. I kid you not when I say some fake trees, with lights so bright you can see them from outer space, are now also so expensive they are offering PAYMENT PLANS for them, for a fake tree! 🤣 and yes people are buying them like hotcakes.
No money for food, gas, or student loans, but give them a tree the price of what a used car cost a few years back!

Warehouse stores, you’re not off the hook either.
Here
Remember when I said I’d feel the same way about Asian stuff. I wasn’t lying.
WHY on earth does Costco have Chinese New Year stuff lumped with Christmas? See how weird things are getting!
BTW Chinese New Year isn’t until FEBRUARY, so why the heck they lumping it in with Christmas in December! Would be better suited with
Valentines stuff at least.

That is all for now.

To my gothic tastes, these are kinda cool actually.
Would go well with an Addam's family vibe for Christmas.
That's not for everyone though.

I totally understand it from a design perspective. I’ve seen pink trees, I’ve seen orange trees. The thing is, it’s usually not one of the main themes in a store or for the holiday season….

Probably a fair gripe if it's overshadowing the traditional stuff.
Besides, if everyone starts buying black trees then it won't be quirky and cool anymore,
as with unnatural hair colors and mohawks.

You give marxist racist thinking an inch, they will take the entire mile. Scary to think that so many heads of corporations all buy into this nonsense. Is it a last gasp or the next 100 years? We will all have a part in deciding that regardless of what we hope for.

Hey white people! Diversity Inclusion Equity, that spells DIE!

Because 'black lives matter' ?

The last thing I want to surround myself with this year is the color black. It's not nearly as cheery as the multi-colored Christmas decorations I favor, and gawd knows we need some cheerful colors to chase the depressing doom and gloom of the last few years away.

I can see a lot of write-offs after the holiday season this year for big box stores. They're bottom line is going to be 'in the black' this year.

It seems like you've had a rather interesting and potentially frustrating shopping experience, and you've noticed some unusual trends in the holiday decor and retail offerings. The commercialization and marketing of the holiday season can vary widely from store to store, and it's not uncommon for retailers to try different strategies to cater to their target audience and generate sales.

Decor Trends: Retailers often experiment with various decor trends to appeal to different customer preferences. The black-themed Christmas decor you mentioned might be an attempt to provide alternative options for those who prefer a different aesthetic or to follow trends in interior decoration.

Nutcrackers: The display of African American nutcrackers might be an effort to provide a more diverse range of holiday decor options. However, it's understandable that the absence of white nutcrackers in a predominantly white area may seem unusual.

Black Santas: Diversity in holiday decorations, including Black Santas, can be seen as a way to be inclusive and represent a broader range of people. It's essential for retailers to cater to various demographics and customer preferences.

High-Cost Decorations: The pricing of holiday decorations can vary widely, and it's not uncommon for retailers to offer premium or high-end options for those who are willing to invest in them. Payment plans for expensive artificial trees might be an attempt to make these items more accessible to a broader range of customers.

Chinese New Year: It's not unusual for retailers to display holiday items for multiple occasions during the holiday season, as people may celebrate different holidays in close proximity. While some people may find it confusing, it's an attempt to cater to a diverse customer base.

Consumer trends and marketing strategies can evolve and adapt over time, and they may not always align with individual preferences or expectations. If you have specific concerns about the products or decorations available in a particular store, you can provide feedback to the store management or explore other retailers that better match your preferences.

Hmm, not really surprised. Been a lot of bashing of "traditional America" the last few years. The popular images/"traditions" of Christmas (which may largely have originated in the immediate postwar era) are a powerful seasonal symbol of a time when Americans were proud of their way of doing things. Today, not so much, and rejecting tradition has become a game of provocation for many.

So yeah, Christmas trees that look dead in appearance, and so on.

Cheers

Been celebrating Chinese New Year since I was born and have never seen it lumped with Christmas decor.

It's understandable that you have a long-standing tradition of celebrating Chinese New Year separately from Christmas, and it can be surprising to see the two holiday themes combined in retail displays. Your feedback is valuable, and if you have concerns about the way certain holidays are presented in stores, you can consider sharing your thoughts with the store's management or corporate customer service. They may appreciate your input and use it to improve their holiday offerings in the future.

I would bet that the popularlity of Wednesday has contributed to the fad.

I had a bazillion Trick or Treaters. Ran out of candy in my large cauldron. The little girls were ALL dressed as Wednesday Addams

Im late 60s. I want a tat. Would have a tat, but scared. I'm working up to it. I can still rock a tank top, so I will get it on my upper arm, when I finally get the courage. A koi that my grandson drew, or a Zia sun icon from the NM flag, with an eclipse to commemorate seeing it.

But not one for a black Christmas. Maybe I'll get one FOR Christmas. (just to be on topic)

I agree with this right here. Especially now that my wife and I have a girlfriend that is IN LOVE with gothic aesthetic and Halloween, the idea of mixing the two together is something that we've all talked about and we're all completely on board with.

The Zimbabwe-an Santa and Nutcrackers and such might be a bit much though..... there's having a diverse selection, and there's having nothing but a diverse selection... which in and of itself isn't really diverse.

There's also a possibility that everything traditional has been bought and they were waiting on a restock when you went there shopping? Although the likelihood of all those stores being in the same boat seems a bit unlikely....

I do think this is a merge between Halloween and Christmas, but I don’t think it’s going to go as planned.
There are of course some people that love it but I don’t think that is going to be the bulk of people.
From what I saw, the shelves were filled to the brim, which nothing gone.
Some of this stuff looks good in magazine but probably not for the normal American household.
