They also want this - from your NBC source:
"During his interview with NBC News, Hamad called on Israel to halt its aggression against the Gaza Strip. But last week, Hamad told Lebanese TV channel LBC that Hamas “must remove” the Jewish state and that Hamas was prepared to repeat its Oct. 7 operation “a second, a third, a fourth” time".

I do because he is not compromising with the other side, he is giving an ultimatum.
You don't compromise with terrorists. You don't reward their bad behavior.
That just causes them to behave badly even more.
What Hamas wants for the hostages is obviously unreasonable, therefore it's rejected.

Obviously that's not all they want because Israel has done that swap before.
Latest Developments
Hamas said on October 28 that it seeks the release of thousands of Palestinians in Israeli prisons in exchange for the freedom of hostages the terrorist organization seized on Ocober 7. The jailed Palestinians include detainees convicted in Israeli courts of committing a range of crimes, including terrorism. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged that his government was discussing the issue but declined to give further details. The Israeli government has said that Hamas must release the hostages unconditionally. Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, a spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), said the terrorist group’s statement constitutes “psychological terror cynically used by Hamas to create pressure.”
Qatar, a main financial supporter of Hamas, has played a role as an intermediary in the hostage negotiations. On October 28, Doha’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, in an apparent effort to pressure Israel, announced that the IDF’s stepped-up Gaza offensive is complicating efforts by his government to secure the release of the hostages.
Israel is calling for the destruction of Gaza and any and all people there that have nowhere to go.

Did you not understand? That Hamas terrorist stated their intent to "remove" the Jewish State.
Genocide, in other words.
And vowed to continue the October 7th attacks, again and again.
Yet you accuse Israel of issuing an "ultimatum" by insisting no pause without the release of hostages?
Some mental gymnastics, there.

yeah their gonna send out teams with ground penetrating radar/ tech into building to search for tunnels in the middle of a fire fight or locations that could have who knows how many terrorists lurking about and could pop up and kill them.
if anything entrances/exits would be searched for after a area is secured and if any found very carefully searched at all. you could never tell if there will be booby traps.
urban warfare and tunnel warfare aren't the most friendly environments to conduct operations.
