For those interested , I was able to get to the study after a few clicks from article to article.

ccforum.biomedcentral.com...

FYI the purpose of the study was not to determined if there IS an afterlife. it was to investigate the incidence of NDE in ICU survivors, the frequency, and the quality of life after.

Background

So far, the few prospective studies on near-death experience (NDE) were carried out only in intensive care unit (ICU) patients with homogeneous aetiologies, such as cardiac arrest or trauma survivors. The aims of this 1-year prospective and monocentric study were to investigate the incidence of NDE in ICU survivors (all aetiologies) as well as factors that may affect its frequency, and to assess quality of life up to 1 year after enrolment.

One thing seems certain: we'll ALL know the truth about this at some point.

Yes that's true. It would be nice to know what is coming.
It's kinda important .. being that its' eternity and all that.

Eternity. Or is it?

These mentally ill folk always act like they have the answer. Like they're the chosen one. They have delusions of grandeur and dumb down our society

lol what makes you think your right or better than anyone else? lol What makes you think your cognitively cognizant enough to even perceive an experience such as this. seems Alot of folks fall back on there baser animal instinct just to survive and it shows. lol no evolution for you, next! hahaha

So because I don't believe in an imaginary being I'm less evolved? You're point has zero merit. What experience are you talking about? You sound like Donnie just jumping in. My baser animal instincts would make me believe in some higher power. I use science and reasoning to move past such childish views. I don't need some santa clause to make me a good person. Especially when the majority of religions make good people perform terrible and evil actions.

I don't know about that. Did you read the article?
He started out as a skeptic and the study changed his views.

A study concluded... OK

I want to believe. The problem is the fiction writing culture that has taken root like a parasite in places like reddit where people give personal testimonies on incredible experiences that in the end are fiction. They have polluted the source so nothing on the internet can be believed sans faith. it gets worse as more and more people add there own imagination for either profit or fun. All that it has left us with is our faith in the things we can not measure.

I doubt that this man who did the study was immune to this issue. So I cant in good conscience put any credence into what this article implicates. An open mind is all that I can hope from everyone. And an understanding that nothing is pure of contention in the competition for existence.

I had open heart surgery on Feb 14, 2023 and the surgeon had a hard time restarting my heart. I remember voices yelling at me to not go. That was my experience.

If anecdotes en masse are meaningless, then life itself must not be real, dumbass.

. The think that irks me is the OP saying this IS proof of an afterlife.

I didn't say it. The article said it. That's the conclusion of this study.
I happen to agree there is probably an afterlife.

My favorite post-death recollections are those that involve meeting the spirit guide and being shown some things...before snapping back into their physical body. Those are fascinating and very informative.

Sounds like the medical team was verbally motivating you to "hang on".

I have seen and heard these cases. And they are very compelling and interesting. And bring hope. BUT... the ever skeptic in me wonders whether these children were coached or learned of the information in another more common way.

The thing is, let's say it's true and there's an afterlife. How do the varied experiences, usually relating to one of the big 3 religions explain logic and reason?

If it's the traditional Christian heaven - am I expected to sit and worship God for eternity? If it's bliss and paradise, me being me, I'll get bored. fast. I need obstacles and challenges to be interested.

If it's Islam, do martyrs get 72 women? What do the womeb get? Seems like a sh*t deal for them.

If reincarnation is true, how does that work? What system balances your karma? Your experiences? How does it weigh up good and bad? How does it select your next incarnation?

If you've killed people, how does that judgement work? If you did it to save others, is it ok? If you did it because you're evil, how does the system know? What if you are mentally ill and didn't know what you were doing, or your religious beliefs compelled you and you beleived what you were doing was just? If that's ok, what about the victims? WHat justice do they get?

I guess the point I'm making is, everything about the afterlife is completely arbitrary and made up. there is SO much 'human' thought and 'assumption' in what the afterlife is, that is seems completely made up. The system makes zero sense.

See, this is the problem with all sorts of science. Where do anecdotes become data? How come that a covid death was considered data yet a vaccine death is annecdotal? I have heard this nonsense for the past few years now. Most studies have many many less than 5000 subjects, some appear to think 8 is plenty. So, this is anecdotal, yeah, but so many of these stories include information that the subject simply could not know unless he, she, or they had left their body. I have watched many many NDEs now, and they all seem to say pretty much the same thing. Which is better results than many of the studies I have read.

Every religion has it's thoughts on the afterlife. The best description probably comes from Jesus - "Eye has not seen and ear has not heard what God has ready for those who love Him'. In other words, we don't know and can't understand.

Yeah… you’re in the afterlife, aka death. All we know is death, what we’ve NEVER known in this world is Life.
