Once again, Barbie had been dubbed a woke movie by Conservative media and it's killing it right now.

This isn't the conversation of this thread. Barbie or not I don't really care. You can go and watch it. But the woke goes broke. Look at the topic of this discussion, Bud Light, that lost billions in sales and is now forced to lay off some of their employees.

Middle management fluff are always expendable when shifting goals and 'lean and mean' practices are put into place. Nothing new here.

Acting as if it's no big deal because InBev is only down a few points is disingenuous from the stock price and it's effect on the workers that were attached to the BudLight brand. Some things can be recouped corporately but not individually.

a quick look at InBEV 5 year chart shows they were making a modest run to the recent 2021 high of 78 till promoting the change and transition during one of the heaviest beer-drinking times of the year. March Madness is huge for the bar and restaurant industry and pizza delivery and obviously beer industry. This wasn't gonna go over well anytime, but having it hit when it did was the worst timing ever, no matter if it shouldn't be a big deal or not. It was literally on par with New Coke as the worst consumer corporation's marketing mistake EVER.

I used to buy our supplies for our trade shows, I can tell you since it's a sales event and our budget was always limited I wouldn't have bought Bud Light as a hospitality service because who needs the hassle when trying to sell a customer is hard enough as it is. Not to mention if you do go buy 20 cases and if you have a lot left over always pissed off the boss.

So while InBev may be fine, they aren't doing as well as they could be look at Molson's stock price which soared in April and May.

Excuses upon excuses
Moving the bars and avoiding reality.
Billions lost in sales and they have fired hundreds of their staff.

Looking at the 5Y is kind of disingenuous. Stocks tanked with the pandemic and since then have pretty much remained stable.

As far as I'm aware, that's the story for all of the macrobreweries.

As a brewer that lost his job in 2020, I can tell you from personal experience that the pandemic hit the brewing industry hard. And even before that Trump's tariffs on aluminum caused a shortage in cans that was affecting distribution focused breweries.

And are hiring lots more staff, just not middle management fluff.

First and most important, if you go woke then you go broke. I think everyone should learn their lesson by now.

The biggest movie in the world right now was deemed woke by Conservatives and its still on pace to gross over a billion dollars.

The "go woke go broke" argument is a lazy one and doesn't cover the details of a situation.

It's like when liberals used to say, "check your privilege" or when conservatives met Trump criticisms by calling it "TDS".

You're not properly reporting a situation if you just spew out buzzwords and call it a fact.

Bud Light didn't cater properly to it's customer base. Emails prove they wanted to be less associated with the "fratty and out of touch customers".

Essentially, Bud Light was embarrassed about who their customers were and wanted to spread out into new demographics.

The mistake was jumping into the deep end immediately. They could've done commercials with a universally popular gay celebrity and within 5 years time, slowly had a grasp on redneck and rainbow wallets alike, without anyone realizing it.

But no. Bud Light marketing executives opted to throw the frog into hot water instead of opting for a slow burn. Which alienated it's older an newer base simultaneously.

"Woke" people have money too. There are very successful companies with "woke" business practices.

Go woke go broke is a joke. A lazy argument.

This is a tale of corporate greed and getting embarrassed by one's own customer base.

Maybe you're also right.
So they wanted to appeal to the woke demographic.

So all other demographics besides extreme conservatives (I wanted to describe it another way, but...) in your mind are all 'woke'? Most people don't care.

Exactly. It boils down to marketing.

That said, I would hardly say AB jumped into the deep end. They sent a six pack to a social media influencer.

Do you think all these years they didn't appear to anyone else other than the extreme conservatives?! By your take if extreme conservatives form a party then they will easily win the next presidential election with any candidate they could nominate.

I predict that Bud will repackage/rebrand budlite into patriotic flag adorned maga containers and sell more than ever.

Easy fix....

Even thinking about budlite makes me gag.

I predict you are as wrong AF, brand loyalty is a thing, you can't slap a different picture on it, it's still the same chitty beer.
Serious beer drinkers and hellraisers have long memories, there's plenty of cheap beer without the social engineering.

Besides the WHOLE Budweiser brand is losing to Modelo within InBEV and is losing to Molson's and others outside the brand.

Bud Light won't ever reclaim that hard-fought light beer market share, and Budweiser might not ever reclaim its position
either.

Read these lyrics and ask yourself can you see these people ever going back to a bottle of Bud Light, it doesn't matter if 80% agree and forgive and forget. There is a solid 20% of beer drinkers and hell raisers that will never go back. What's crazy Anhueser fought so hard to appeal to that demographic and they had it solidly in their grasp. This bunch will gladly find their "can of dinner" elsewhere permanently.

Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers

If you see me walkin' down the line
With my fav right honky tonk in mind,
Well, I'll be here around suppertime
With my can of dinner and a bunch of fine.

Beer drinkers and hell raisers, yeah.
Uh-huh-huh, baby, don't you want to come with me?

The crowd gets loud when the band gets right,
Steel guitar cryin' through the night.
Yeah, try'n to cover up the corner fight
But everything cool 'cause they's just tight.

Beer drinkers and hell raisers, yeah.
Huh, baby, don't you want to come with me?
Ah, play it boy.

The joint was jumpin' like a cat on hot tin.
Lord, I thought the floor was gonna give in.
Soundin' a lot like a House Congressional
'cause we're experimental and professional.

Beer drinkers, hell raisers, yeah.
Well, baby, don't you want to come with me?

Yea, now you are downplaying the effect of the video about beer and March Madness.

LOL, they fought so hard to get the blue-collar working man demographic and pissed it away to improve their social media score.

I'm going with a friend to see Barbie in a couple of hours. I don't care if its lewd, rude, and socially unacceptable. I watch those types of movies all the time. I ignore what is offensive and hopefully the rest will be worth my hard-earned $6. If it's pushing sexual identity issues I'll be disappointed. But Barbie wouldn't be Barbie if she wasn't a pretty stereotypical female, obsessed with pink, makeup, hair and nails. Without Ken, who cares. I never cared much for him anyways. I'll give a review in the next day or so.

But the facts speak for themselves and in short period of time the company has lost billions in sales and started firing some of their employees. If it continues the same way the result is predetermined.

Woke = Broke

Someone else pointed this out but I'll add to it.

Woke = Broke is gone.

Woke gets rewarded. Woke will save your company.

In the 1930's businesses that didn't wave the Nazi flag were attacked. Fast forward to 2023, businesses that don't wave the Pride flag are canceled.

It's basically the same ideology/mindset.
