One question keeps popping into my head... who protects our entire nation from defamation? These people can file a lawsuit and protect themselves, but these lies caused injury to our entire nation, to our legal system and our electoral process, our democracy. We all got defamed, as a country, and there is really no way to file a lawsuit as a nation against these liars and opportunists.

You hit upon a pet peeve of mine.

I watch too much ID channel, and it really irks me that cops, prosecutors, judges, and many other government types can lie at will, and face no consequences for it. Cops can lie to suspects, they can lie to friends or relatives of suspects, they can jail someone for months or even years while "investigating", ruin a person's reputation, and face no consequences whatsoever when the person is found innocent.

Prosecutors can lie to witnesses, judges, and juries to get someone convicted. And if that person is found not guilty or exonerated by later evidence, the prosecutor accepts no responsibility. Their attitude is like, "Well, it's the jury's fault for believing my lies."

A judge can call someone every name in the book before sentencing. But if that person is later found not guilty, can he sue the judge for defamation?

I don't even want to get started on politicians.

In nearly every case, government says that it's perfectly legal for government to lie to the people, but people lying to government is illegal.

At this point, I'm not sure if legal lying is a cause of corruption in government or a result. It could go either way. If you legalize lying for government officials, then you are going to attract liars into government positions. Or, if practiced liars get into government, naturally they will legalize lying for themselves and make it illegal to lie to them. What is certain is that it's a recipe for an increasingly corrupt government.

Why do you feel the need to talk down to people? You say uppity crap like 'need I remind you' about Guiliani. I didn't defend him. I said he screwed it up and Sydney Powell was collateral damage.

It's sad for both of them.

Id really prefer you just pass me by, Ok?

It was a OPINION that turned out to be false because it was never proven to be true. Now since Rudy is a lawyer he now knows HE cant prove it from just the video so he has to say he was mistaken, which will be called a lie, because we all know everyone hates republicans.

Lets clear up the difference between opinions and lies.

The 2020 election was irregular and full of problems. There is no way to know how many valid votes were cast for which candidates.

There were not many audits. Recounts and audits are not the same.

Additionally, with all the shenanigans from the Russia collusion witchhunt, the Ukraine phone call impeachment witchhunt and hiding the Biden laptop and lying about it by the FBI, some could say the election was heavily and unjustlyt influenced.

We know that the EC voted for Biden, so he is the legit POTUS.

But it is not a lie to say there was problems in the election and that Trump might have actually won the voting.

It's UNKNOWABLE. Therefore, what everyone believes or not about the election is an OPINION.

And that's just the way it is.

Frankly, I resent someone telling me my opinion is a lie. No it isn't. Neither is yours. Even if we disagree.

An opinion would be, "I believe there were irregularities"

He called them out by name and stated they were "crooks", "political operatives", that they "stuffed ballot boxes" and "obviously stole votes". This lead to death threats, people showing up at their house threatening them. So badly, they couldn't stay there. Because he told the good old zealous "Patriots" that these people committed a crime.

I can't even believe you would try to call that an "opinion". Smdh.

'Yes, I did lie, but under the First Amendment I should be allowed to lie'... that is basically the defense Giuliani and his team are taking in a lawsuit filed by two Fulton County employees.

Where did he say that exactly, or is it that you just decided to make up something because it fit your narrative? Opinions are protected free speech, regardless if you like it or not.

Like this case. Cops went to jail and the family got 27 million. Gold Casket and huge funeral during COVID. Why? Because a person who was in the act of a felony OD'd.

These two want this as a distraction. Why is there no investigation into the actual f'n video that the state of GA has showing them, after hours with no supervision. We as voters are all just supposed to accept ' nothing to see here'...

That's an opinion, yes.

There is no way to know how many valid votes were cast for which candidates.

Also an opinion - and is incorrect. As I keep telling people, sign up at your local county to become an elections clerk. You'll see first hand just what the checks and balances are.

Don't believe opinions. INVESTIGATE BY PARTICIPATING!

There were not many audits.

True

Recounts and audits are not the same.

Quite true. Recounts involve re=doing the whole set of ballots - and they'll redo a count if the tallies don't match. Audits only do a sample size

Additionally, with all the shenanigans from the Russia collusion witchhunt, the Ukraine phone call impeachment witchhunt and hiding the Biden laptop and lying about it by the FBI, some could say the election was heavily and unjustlyt influenced.

I don't think it's a witch hunt when recordings of these things are presented.

We know that the EC voted for Biden, so he is the legit POTUS.

As did the majority of people who voted in that election. However, not everyone who COULD vote DID vote. I did, of course.

But it is not a lie to say there was problems in the election and that Trump might have actually won the voting.

Problems were minor, and Trump did not win. Remember that he lost the popular vote to Clinton (though he won the Electoral College) and he wasn't a popular president - never scoring higher than a 48 percent approval - (his popularity among Republicans has fallen since the beginning of 2023)

It's funny they deny this. All the trouble and chaos happened in Georgia and Arizona, those two states were the two that decided the election...Georgia being the last peach in the basket....

When I voted in person, I remember signing my name in a voting log book, but there wasn't a copy of a previous signature of mine to compare it to, and I don't remember having to show any other ID to vote at the time. This was in LA County, CA, back in the 90's. Now was this signature in the voting log compared to what the state had on file for me from my voter registration? I could not say. That apparently is the way that mail-in/absentee ballots are verified.

How States Verify Voted Absentee/Mail Ballots

How are mail-in and absentee ballots verified?

Whether a state requires voters to request an absentee ballot or participates in universal mail-in voting, all ballots cast by mail or dropped off at a drop box are vetted to ensure their legitimacy.

Election officials log every mail ballot so voters cannot request more than one. Those ballots also are logged when they are returned, checked against registration records and, in many cases, voter signatures are on file to ensure the voter assigned to the ballot is the one who cast it.

At least in the state I now vote in, the inner envelope with the ballot in it must be signed. And this signature is compared with that on file.

How prevalent is voter fraud?

As with other forms of election fraud, harsh penalties for voter fraud by mailed ballot act as another deterrent. Depending on the circumstance, voter fraud charges can result in a fine, prison time or both.

Despite widespread claims of mail-in and absentee ballot fraud, the reality is it’s exceedingly rare. The Brennan Center for Justice in 2017 ranked the risk of ballot fraud at 0.00004% to 0.0009%, based on studies of past elections.

Meanwhile, a May 2022 Associated Press survey of states that allowed the use of drop boxes in the 2020 presidential election found no cases of fraud, vandalism or theft involving drop boxes that could have affected the results.

How are mail-in and absentee ballots verified

Just looked up current voter ID rules and laws, and it now sounds like 35 states require ID. I have no problem with such laws, and it seems like a good way of vetting ballots, albeit a bit time consuming unless it can be done with electronic scans.

Voter identification laws by state

Why declare that the actual winner of an election is unknowable until you are proven otherwise, when it is easy to look the matter up?

You're comparing apples to oranges.

Trump received 11 million more votes in 2020 than he did in 2016, but Biden still received 7 million more votes than Trump in 2020. Both sides had large get-out-the-vote campaigns, which in part explained the larger turn outs in previous elections, such as those involving Obama. However, dissatisfaction with Trump likely helped Biden as well with sections of the electorate.

The Guardian article discussing Trump's fall in popularity by comparing a 2022 poll with one in 2023. However much better he faired in the 2020 election over 2016 doesn't have to do with his recent fall in popularity with Republicans.

But what does any of this have to do with Giuliani acknowledging he lied about his claims of voter fraud in the 2020 election? And why was Giuliani only looking at states with relatively close votes that went for Biden, and not at states that only went marginally for Trump, i.e. Florida and North Carolina? It would seem he didn't really care about checking election legitimacy, but was only attempting to flip the election result.
