Yahoo news story

Maybe we should just put up signs that say "trespassers will be shot"

I mean...ive been all around the country and i see these signs all the time. this is legally directed and enforced to/against our own "fellow Americans", what makes an immigrant any different.

stop with the "ohhh poor immigrant" humanitarian violins, its all bull$#!t

So what would you do were you in Abbott's place?

Its easy to throw insults. Not so easy to throw good solutions.

Here's a couple.....less than lethal military microwave weapons and or water cannons to dispel rioters.

Here is an update on that: from 2 months ago.

I don't know what happened between 2021 and last May.

Perhaps this is the showdown coming with the Mexican NG and why I posted this thread. Maybe you will get what you are wishing for!

Please offer some suggestions about how states should be doing a better job doing the federal government's job.

I'm hoping someone here can offer something besides criticism to the only conversative governor on the Mexican border and his ally in Fl.

What could Abbott be doing that would satisfy you?

But what should Texas governor specifically be doing to protect Texans from a foreign invasion?

Everything youve said applies to the federal government and they clearly do not care about it.

Do you have a source for those emails, please. I'd like for everyone to be able to see them for validation that the new Texas Border Protection Unit has been ordered to drown immigants.

I want to see the specific language used for myself.

Also, the actual directives and rules of engagement would be nice if you have a reference.

Thanks in advance!

Abbot should create an alligator wildlife refuge all along the Rio Grande.

I have very mixed feeling about this.
On the one hand, people of Texas have a right not to be invaded. That invasion has been happening as long as I've been alive.
So there isn't a quick, easy, painless answer.

I know one thing, the answer to me should not include pushing people back into the river. I haven't seen it with my own eyes so I don't know if that is really happening. Nothing would surprise me anymore.

The difference is, I guess, is that Texans, American citizens didn't CHOSE to put these people into the river. They chose to put themselves.

It's cold, but when a countries humanitarianism is just being taken advantage of, what choices are left? Allow them to take advantage? People are pretty tired of that.

If you reward something, you get more of it.

It's been happening for as long as NM, AZ, and CA became states! Used to see people in small groups of 2 or 4 walking along the RIo Grande at night 50 years ago. Men, looking for field work mostly. A trickle compared to now.

partly so but not in whole so don't put words in my mouth just yet.
Im guessing you didn't intend to, but there is a lot here that I don't wish for.

I don't think immigrants should be jailed, they should be sent back to where they come from.
This puts an unnecessary burden on American taxpayers, promotes "for profit" prison culture, separates families and create more problems than it solves. (we can talk about "sound of freedom" here but I don't think its on topic)

I also think the idea of the Mexican NG actually being escorts may be overblown reports. Given what i understand about Mexico's treatment of illegal immigrants, I feel they are only a deterrent to keep the migrants moving and get them out of the country. I have little to no doubt they will ever be present along the US border.

One thing I never understood is why the Mexican government doesn't secure their southern border.
They certainly shouldn't be getting the money we send them every year, imagine what 300 million a year could do for Americans, thats nearly a million dollars a year for every American. I could definitely spend it better

the answer does not need to be painless, sometimes you just have to rip the bandaid off.

That is why I think it's so stupid that people didn't believe Trump could force Mexico to pay for the wall. Sure he could have. Just not sent them the foreign aid.

Easy Peasy.

First let's stop the political theater and pandering to constituents. A state governors job is to lead all the people in the state and bring them together.

Another is not using barb wire in the river so that people will drown.

If he wants a deterrent/wall. Then maybe get a bunch of shipping containers. Fill them with sand. Stack them 3 to 4 high. There's millions of them sitting empty all over the US.
