Texas is taking it upon themselves to try to prevent people from crossing the Rio Grande.

People are drowning in the river. The situation at the border is untenable. What should Texas be doing about this? Isn't it a federal problem?

Will Texas and Border Patrol confront the Mexican National Guard sooner or later?

What a mess.

IMPEACH MAYORKAS!

And if the were trying to enter the legal way would they still be drowning? So The mexican guard is going to protect them while they try to cross then? If so I see fireworks in the near future.

We spent all our money and resources fighting foreign invaders invading a foreign country so there's nothing left to use on the home front.

The US is just helping the pharmaceutical industry expand their profit margin by importing syphilis, TB, malaria and other fun diseases.

Me too! This is such an unmitigated disaster. I'm afraid the shooting might start myself!

yeah, the same razor wire that border agents cut open so migrants can come through?

a single sheet of plywood or a good leather jacket can over come that with ease. total waste of taxpayer dollars. After all these people go through to get here you really think some haphazardly strung out razor wire will stop them?

Its not just texas, why do we hear nothing about new mexico or arizona, and very little about california or florida

save texas? they want to leave the union anyways

So what would you do were you in Abbott's place?

Its easy to throw insults. Not so easy to throw good solutions.

well... to theorize,

I would continue to build the wall, there are millions of dollars of unused materials along the border for exactly that purpose. which just goes to show the failure of abbots reign
Utilizing the constitutional powers given to him as governor, I would close the ports of entry and reinforce the open portions of the border with reserve units, recruiting and establishing new units as needed. Holding accountable all individuals who violated any rule or law in place with the intent of protecting said border, as well as prosecuting and/or "repatriating" said immigrants who do/can not follow immigration policies or US laws.
I imagine this would cause some sort of lawsuit or federal injunction which would be more action than the federal is currently taking

And no, repatriating does not mean spending taxpayer dollars to send illegals to sanctuary cities/states or other locations, it means sending them right back where they came from be it venezeula or honduras or cuba or china or indonesia and holding those countries liable for the bill. i think we would find it cheaper than housing and processing them here in the states
I would also bring charges against federal officials who fail to uphold their constitutional duties to protect the border under the premise of treason.

Edit to add: it would probably be best to send back to the southern mexican border and force the mexican government to deal with their own southern border issues instead of creating a safe corridor that allows them passage. The things the mexican government does to illegal immigrants is far worse than anything the US doesn't do

The materials are property of the US Govt, not Texas. He would be arrested if he seized the material.

The Border facilities and the actual entry are property of the US Govt. He would promptly be arrested if he closed the border.

Locally, before CA became a sanctuary state, we had something called a midnight deportation. Same when I lived near the border in NM. Local LEO does it still in many places. What happens is that when they catch an illegal doing something, say shoplifting, or speeding, whatever, they say, get on the bus to Mexico tonight, and this didn't happen. Otherwise, we turn you over to ICE, you will still be sent back to Mexico and you will have to wait 10 years to reapply for re-entry. You'd be surprised how many get on that bus back across the border, no questions asked. It used to be more effective when feds were actually backing it up.

How about putting forward a solution that wont end with Abbott in jail, or doesn't completely lie withing FEDERAL jurisdiction as the courts have already ruled.

NM and CA are sancturary states and welcome the invasion.

Except when NM had a republican governor and declared it a disaster area. I think the democrat governor there now has also. It's a really mess.

Arizona local governments along the border are suspected of already being in on the cartel payrolls. Wouldn't be surprised to hear that's not isolated to Az.

Texas holds higher standards for their citizens I guess. At least they are putting up resistance.

Sept. 9th 2021, the texas legislature passed and Abbot signed into law HB 20 which can be seen below.

Texas H.B. 20

It establishes, within the state constitution, the texas BORDER PROTECTION UNIT, which is given broad responsibility to protect the border. Abbot has done nothing with it...

Also you asked what I would do in his place, not if I cared whether he risked being arrested or not.
In theory I would seize all that material and use it.
I seriously doubt he/I would be arrested

Abbots efforts are a joke and between him and Desantis they play more political games on the border than any real actions.

This right here. Instead of governing they are performing political theater and pandering to their constituents. It's great for getting re-elected but it shows lack of real leadership skills and usually backfires spectacularly.

This problem won't go away until we do something about the root of the problem.

Poor desperate people still think this country is better than wherever they are escaping from.

Two solutions, you take away their ability to enjoy what is better here or
you allow them to enjoy it but at your benefit.

Just doing nothing makes the problem worse.

The e-mails have been leaked exposing how Texas Border Agents were secretly ordered to force them into the river to drown them so whatever hate fueled sentiments exposed need to really scrutinize their beliefs and understand how propoganda works. There is mounting evidence through rationalized thinking to understand how the Texas Governor is in on it. Corruption is the soup of the day people not patriotism or border security or any of those advertising words used to trigger the under educated into these hate fueled rants.a reply to: boredhere74

As did those who lived here before the “native Americans” came from wherever they did.
