Jesus Chrikey, being allowed to read upto 6000 tweets sounds like a punishment worse than death, who in their right mind would want to read that much inane babble, perhaps this restriction could be seen as a service to humanity, i take it prior to that you could read unlimited tweets

Agree with your sentiment, but I don't think that's what it's about. If "data scraping" is going on, then that has to do with scripted bots viewing Twitter posts in normally massive numbers. I don't think any human will be put-off by being limited to 600 or even 6000 posts (I hope). It is, however, a big crimp in the style of persons without Twitter accounts that might go to a handful of tweets a day at most, pointed there by article and post links. Furthermore, I'd imagine that a lot of Twitter users depend on such viewership. I know I won't be bothering to click on any more Twitter links in the foreseeable future.
Seems like this is just one more reason people should leave Twitter and go to a better run site. It does make me wonder how many screw-ups Elon Musk has committed with Tesla and Space-X. He apparently is oblivious to the damage to Twitter that his cavalier actions are doing.

only... the whole point of this thread is that discussion is NOT currently possible.
Soooo maybe not such a galaxy brained hero man after all, huh?
Although i guess TECHNICALLY since the site is unusable there is currently no WoKe IdEoLoGy happening so....
well done i guess?

The issue is also for those that don't pay for a blue check mark. They are limited as well. Many stated they are receiving a threshold limit reached after browsing for a few minutes. Blue check marks have a higher limit. Most willing to pay are Elon fans and the far right. So sure, a very limited discussion is available if you're speaking of discussion among all persuasions of people. Spoutible,Post, and Bluesky have seen a big upsurge in members since Saturday apparently.

there's also issues with replies simply not showing up in notifications, a funny phenom where you can be unable to view tweets [including your own] but you can still post [but not see what you've just posted], and the site essentially DDoSing itself.
But no, THIS guy doesn't have an account so the ONLY issue is not being able to view tweets when you don't have an account.
I love the mix of going to bat for Elon and not knowing what the heck you're talking about, i wonder if they could possibly be linked :O

I've just noticed you can't access twitter pages if you don't login to your account. Until now you could access any public page even if you didn't have an account.
You don't need an account to access twitter pages unless it's private tweets that are only visible to those who follow these accounts.

why ask a question if you're so utterly uninterested in answers?
Multiple people have explained what's going on to you, but instead of accepting that there's a wider thing going on that actual users of the site might understand, you're digging in your heels and going "no! the only problem is the one that has personally affected ME!" like you straight up acknowledge you don't have an account, why not listen to people who do? absolute catastrophic babymode over here

Not fair criticism on Elon as he has made quite a lot of positive changes since he took over. He fired a number of people who were ideologically driven (woke employees) when others walk out on their own. He said no more of this woke ideology on twitter and a number of discussions became possible again. He reinstated a lot of accounts banned by the woke regime.

Yes. Twitter was bought by a rich idiot who fired too many people who keep the site operating correctly and who's now running the site into the ground at a great rate of knots.
Seriously, I have no idea what's going with Musk, the man's a moron.

Oh, I think it is more than fair. Yes, he fired a lot of people, and then he attempted to hire some of them back. He's refusing to pay for the office space he has rented. He has ignored labor laws as far as how employees were laid off.
Then there are all the screw-ups with Twitter itself, and his hypocrisy in running it. The "blue check" verified account used to mean something, and now it doesn't; in fact, accounts without blue checks now are more likely to be legit. Hate speech and other attacks are on the rise now that he has fired the work force that moderated Twitter. Musk claims he is for free speech, but then says he is going to ban the term "cis-male". And speaking of which, he says all sorts of things about what he is going to do concerning Twitter, and sometimes he follows through and sometimes he doesn't. He's like a petulant kid making threats. Then there was that big Twitter roll-out for DeSantis. Unless Musk was pwning DeSantis, that didn't go well. Then there was his threat to censor links to other news sites, such as to his buddy Matt Taibbi's Substack page. And his way of taking short-duration polls on Twitter to decide Twitter policy -- what a ridiculous way to come to decisions. I guess every interested Twitter user needs to hang out on Twitter 24/7 in case any crucial Twitter polls come down the pike.
Then there is the fact that he overpaid for it in the first place, and didn't do his due diligence in researching it more thoroughly to know what it was actually worth. And to purchase it, he has had to sell off stock in Tesla, which has dropped that company's stock price, hurting his investors and himself further. He totally dropped the ball on his fiduciary responsibility to his stock holders.
And then there is this most recent screw-up with access denied to people without Twitter accounts. You think that is going to somehow encourage people who have no interest in otherwise joining Twitter to all of a sudden do so? I think I can safely speak for millions of people when I say, "uh, no" to that proposition.
Take it from the mouth of the industrial magnate clown himself:
Elon Musk says 'many mistakes' made since Twitter takeover
And the proof in in the pudding of Elon's own polling found, which found that 57.5% of Twitter users polled want him to step down.
And there is the fact that he doesn't understand that Twitter isn't a tech company, but a media one.
What Elon Musk failed to understand about Twitter
Please spare us the love of your cult leader. Unless you consider the prime benchmark of Twitter's performance by its allowing back many previously banned accounts, and now making it easy for such persons to ban users they don't like, then Musk's Twitter running performance has been bad. It seems that Twitter was running fine before he came along. He's broken it.

I don't think you will be limited if you don't have a blue check mark. Until now you were able to browse anything you want and even if you don't have an account you were able to view tweets and other twitter accounts. The main issue is those who don't have an account and are no longer able to view anything.

We cannot believe in these polls I am afraid.
You're missing the point. I don't have a twitter account. I made the thread because I was unable to view tweets, something I could do until a few days ago.
Speaking of cults, I think Elon made a wise move by firing employees who belonged to the woke cult.
