You mean calling others mentally ill is just a psychological symptom called projection?

It looks to me like the only mental issue being dealt with is depression.

Mental just means brain.
Dysfunction/disorder are not mental illness or damage.
Of course there can be depression, but that’s minimized by acceptance and support.
If you have rational thought — I would not call it an illness.

Cognitive is intelligence, processing and computing. Psychological is feelz and behaviors.
Mental is all of it together in the brain.
If these processes are not working well,it is an illness that should be treated.
Reason and logic can include any of these elements. Or get derailed by any of them. If you can’t put together a rational or logical thought, you need counseling.
No wonder you guys have trouble getting untracked.
You redefine everything depending on the thread, post, or complaint du jour.

So can we think of depression as an emotional/coping issue?

Sure.
Everyone has moments of depression.
I have a low blood sugar issue. If I eat sugar I have bipolar episodes. I handle my issue with a specific natural diet.
I do think some depression is directly related to poor diet.

I'd take the word of a trained psychologist over an ATS posters knee-jerk reaction anytime of the day.

really? Because Gender Dysphoria has been a diagnosable mental illness for a long time until just recently when the left decided to normalize it. So you agreed with it back then, and changed your mind, or did you always disagree with it and have no clue what you are actually saying?
Because gender dysphoria is included in the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, also called the DSM, it is diagnosed as a mental disorder, experts said. (The DSM is the handbook used by health care professionals as the authoritative guide in diagnosing mental disorders.)
But the gender incongruence — having a gender identity that’s not the one assigned at birth — isn’t what makes gender dysphoria a mental disorder. Having clinically significant dysphoria around the incongruence is what makes it a disorder, Ahuja said.
“Like all DSM illnesses, one key component of depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, all of that, is that you have to be functionally impaired by it, otherwise it doesn’t count as a diagnosis,” he added.

Gender dysphoria involves more complex issues within gender incongruence.

Did you see the new study that the bad gut bacteria affects us in many detrimental ways? BTW, how is the kid doing, not that I really need to ask with a great grandma like you?
