I see there is now specific wording being bandied about for this oath malarkey, see below from the BBC website:

The order of service will read: "All who so desire, in the Abbey, and elsewhere, say together: I swear that I will pay true allegiance to Your Majesty, and to your heirs and successors according to law. So help me God."

www.bbc.co.uk...

What concerns me is the "according to law" bit. Which law and where is that actually written?
As far as I am aware, there is no such law!

did you watch Frankie Boyle's show?

“The time has come to say farewell to the monarchy,” says Boyle at the outset. “Let’s raise a bottle to them,” he says near the end with unexpected cheeriness, which he immediately deflates, “filled with petrol and a burning rag.”

Something tells me he aint getting a knighthood.

I think it isn't the pledge of allegiance that is governed by law, but the heirs and successors to the monarch... that would come under the "Succession to the Crown Act 2013".

I've met Princess Anne, spent 5 or 10 minutes talking with her. She was nothing but polite and surprisingly down to Earth. Still, there was a lot of pomp and circumstance to even be in the same room with her. Day before i had sniffer dogs and blokes with mirrors checking under my desk, wasn't supposed to speak unless spoken to, or offer a handshake, she required her own private toilet for the day as well. To be fair she shook my hand and engaged in conversation, even had a little bit of a joke about her friends all smelling like old horses. Of all the Royals she's the only one i can stomach.

To be honest I don’t see why this is such a big, they are simply inviting people to do it. They aren’t suggesting you DO do it nor are they forcing people to do it. If you don’t want to then don’t bother. It’s not like they’re going to knock on your door and check

Me frankly could give a monkeys. I’ll probably put watching the fly past over Essex and then go about my day

How can all these people swear allegiance blindly to the obvious Antichrist that wants to control the world through his deceptional theme of climate change, changing all rules to fit in his scheme of global control?

He hasn't got the brains for that.

Wouldn't suprise me at all if she was lovely.

I don't know anyone personally who has met her or andrew. But I do for Eddie (described as very nice) and Charles (Grumpy old man).

At the end of the day they are just people(or are they...)

My comment was about public view of them. Their was a period when Andrew was the blue eyed action man.

Yes, no one has to do this. Me, I'm not going to do this.

We are having a village do, but any excuse is good.

I know someone who played golf with Andrew. He asked how he should address him. It certainly wasn't "Andy". Pompous git.

He hasn't really got any real power.

Not since our Civil War sorted that one out.

Personally, I'd never swear allegiance to anything or anyone.

But you know as well as I do that its nothing but tradition and ceremony.
When Elizabeth was crowned back in 1953 people swore a similar oath of allegiance.
It may be an anachronism but its part of the pomp and circumstance surrounding such an event.

Still, its another long weekend and an opportunity to while away the hours in the pub with mates - not that I've ever required much of an excuse to do that.

As for The Monarchy in general.
Not a great lover - in principle the concept revolts me - but what are the alternatives?
A Trump or Biden? Maybe a Macron or Merkel?
Or perhaps even a Putin?

As long as Charlie boy keeps out of politics - not that he'd do a worse job than the arseholes in Westminster - then I'm pretty much apathetic towards him.

Technically, you just swore allegiance to never swearing allegiance to anything or anyone!

Had a cousin in the RN who told me the first thing Andrew did was make sure he reminded the other officers who he was cos he just wasnt up to the job.

Must have ben a terrible embarrassment for his dad, who it seems was a top notch RN officer.

You must remember all that crap with him unable to sign something just after the Queen died, when her royal horseface had to step in and take the pen from him?
