Oh no! Now they have gone and done it. Now that the Conservatives have gone and made child rape a crime punishable by death; the Liberals will have no choice but to defend the rights of some minority to rape children. Such is the way when your in a culture war.

Same here.

But, when legal aid got scrapped for divorce proceedings and custody, except where allegations of child abuse were raised, guess what happened?

The Bible clearly states "Render unto Caesar what is Caeser's." So God clearly knew there would be leaders on earth we would have to obey, even if "Caesar" came up with edicts that weren't necessarily approved of by God. I think this law fits into that paradigm and therefore it is just....

There was a time I would have agreed with you. Not today. I've lived too long, seen too much, and had to face my own fallibility in judgment. Among other things, I understand the difference between that which is of God and that which is of man. Life is from God, by God, and of God, and must be respected and honored as sacrosanct. The death penalty is all man and must be recognized as flawed and fallible.

We HAVE to save our children! They have no way to defend themselves.

Please do it for the children.

TCB

Yes, we do have to save our children. We have to protect them from the gitgo and make damn sure that our kids are NEVER EVER put in a position where they can be abused. No more excuses. There are a million and one excuses for why parents and other authority figures allow kids to be in such a position. Whatever the excuse, we need to do whatever necessary to remove that excuse. Whether that's making changes to remove the opportunities for abuse, or increased safeguarding in vulnerable situations, whatever has to be done.

Lowering ourselves to cold-blooded killers isn't the answer.

We have to be better than that for our children.

This is wrong on many levels and for many reasons.

The Supreme Court was correct in their ruling that we should not be taking a perpetrator's life if the perpetrator did not take a life. Even the Biblical "eye for an eye" logic would find this abhorrent. It's no longer about justice, or deterring future abuse, or even paying their debt to society. It's about vengeance and vindictiveness and tyranny. It's saying, "You hurt someone so we're gonna hurt you the worst way possible and revel in every minute of it. It does nothing to further the principles of justice, just blood lust.

For all the whining and crying about thugs and antifa and BLM being violent killers, the only difference I see is that conservatives hide (and cheer) behind a government gun... and the death penalty. They're just as violent and blood-thirsty, they're just cowards who empower and embolden "authorities" to do their dirty work for them... while pretending like they're all about law and order.

As a society, and a Republic, we have guiding principles and standards to respect and honor ALL life, to temper justice with mercy, to work towards rehabilitation and restitution for offenders to become responsible and non-threatening members of society. When that is not possible, we institutionalize -- whether in prison or in a medical hospital or a therapeutic facility. We take the high road. We understand that the right to life comes from our Creator and it is not for us to take what God has granted. WE DO NOT KILL.

Slippery slope indeed. If this is allowed to stand, what next? What other crimes will we deem worthy of death? Rape would be the first and most obvious, being closest in nature to child sexual abuse. What about child abuse in general? Will the mom who snaps and slaps her kid across the face be next? Will it be the husband/wife who gets angry and throws a glass at the wall? How about the spouse that cheats and "kills" the marriage? The drunk driver who didn't even have an accident... but could have donchaknow!

Bottom Line: If murder isn't the standard for the death penalty, then what is? How will that be defined? And by whom???

its not that they hide behind the law, its that they ignore the law and use ideology to justify it, using their social and economic privilege to get away with it, then they lie their faces off and claim they are law abiding civilized people who respect the rule of law.

this bill isn't going to just be used on child sexual abusers but for all Capital offences which can include anything, it probably will be thrown out by the courts so i just see this as desantis using this just to claim he tried to do the right thing but liberals suppressed him or whatever when he tries to run for president.

Don’t kid yourself. Even without the death penalty Pedos end up getting their skulls caved in during their prison sentence or stabbed 100 times with a pencil because even the other murderous scumbag inmates cannot stand their continued existence the second they catch wind of their crimes.

This is just reality with less steps.

Yes, you're definitely right about that. Which brings up a whole other kettle of fish which I won't go into now and derail the thread.

However, I will say that I don't think convicted murderous felons should be our role models. That should be our first clue that maybe turning ourselves into cold-blooded killers isn't a good idea.

Bill just ensures such scumbags can never re-offend and avoid taxpayers the cost of maintaining this scumbag alive in prison.

I don't see any issue

It's a win all around

We're seeing a lot of this lately where Republicans have a majority -- but not a veto-proof majority -- so they can pass anything they want, get their base all titillated and excited, knowing damn well it will never become law. But they can say "we tried but those nasty Dems ruined it!" and carry on.

The death penalty for child rapists should be everywhere, and death by setting the monsters on fire would be appropriate imo!

Killing children right up until birth and even after...is already the far left's cause celebre.
How far away can their condoning and promoting sex with children be?

When I was baby up until I was around 4, I was sexually assaulted and raped (penetrated), repeatedly by my Grandfather's brother, my "Uncle Johnnie", who had also been abusing my older sister. It took the moving of a mountain for my family to finally do anything about it and even then, all they did was ban him from family get togethers.

Do you think just banning your pedo "Uncle Johnnie" from family gatherings actually prevented him from raping and molesting any other children?

Or...do you think the thought of his facing execution might have been a better deterrent towards saving other children from Uncle Johnnie?

Because, according to you, his fear of the possibility of just going to prison did absolutely nothing to deter his sick behavior.

I don't know anything about his access to "other people's children". I just know that, as a victim, it would have compounded my trauma exponentially if he had been executed because of me. I had enough to deal without my beloved uncle's execution on my shoulders too.

So no trauma from the fact that he remained free to do the same thing to other children...perhaps MANY others?

Is that the plan, to guilt little kids into condoning the death of their mom's brother or uncle, who happens to be a beloved family member? You know that most child abuse is perpetrated by family members or very close family friends.

Do you want the death penalty for Josh Duggar too? Do you think his sisters would celebrate his execution?

The only reason two people I know haven’t been set on fire. I know two people who are victims of child rape at 7-8 years old by uncles. I have seen what it did to them. The fear, ptsd, psychosis. It is equivalent to murder. I HATE pedos.

I literally pray to god everyday for the hate to leave my heart. I have forgiven so many people. I have been almost beaten to death and came to right before being raped and fought that person off. I forgave them. The child rapist I will NEVER forgive! They can’t defend themselves!

One was a terrifically violent attack. I have to believe that God will take vengeance upon these monsters.
