The Silver Springs store is in the nicer far NW side of Milwaukee.

It was a nice area/store in 2019 when I went.

I wouldn't have guessed this Walmart to be closed due to so much loss of product.

The article said it is closing partially due to financial reasons. What I have noticed in working retail and talking to customers is that a lot of people who live in nicer areas don't like Walmart and don't shop there. They go to Sprouts or other "higher end" grocery stores, so maybe there is a nicer grocery store like Whole Foods or Sprouts that the wealthier people are going to instead of Walmart. Maybe it is just a whole bunch of shoplifters at that store and very few actual customers.

The National Retail Foundation is estimating that it lost $94.5 billion last year due to “shrink” — an industry term that means lost inventory — which is being blamed primarily on shoplifting, according to the Wall Street Journal.

nypost.com...

That article goes on to use Target as an example, saying that Target plans to lose 600 million dollars this fiscal year due to shrink which is product loss, either via shoplifting or other causes.

Read an article about how wealthy people maintain that wealth. The less conspicuously wealthy shop at places like Wal-Mart because it helps them save.

So it's a fallacy that the rich don't shop there. Not everyone is poor and looking to rip off Wally World.

Walmart closing its stores in certain areas.
HERE

“It’s infuriating that such a massive, resource-rich and wealthy Fortune 100 enterprise like Walmart cannot keep such an important location open,” Chambers said in a statement obtained by BizJournal. “The move not only negatively impacts shoppers, pharmacy customers and store workers, but I fear it will only add to the food desert issues that we are seeing in that area.”

I wrote about this not so long ago. I could see the movie Elysium playing out in real life AND it is!

All these fools thought that the shoplifting spree would last forever. All they did was GIVE these stores a reason! IMPORTANT location, HAHAHAHAHA. Important for who, the Five Finger Discount shoppers!!! 🤣
Now those same people are all BOO HOO’ing. I’ve never been to that Walmart but I did go to a Target in that vicinity and it was the most horrible, dirty, sad excuse for a store. I wouldn’t doubt it if many other stores are soon to follow. Maybe if people didn’t shoplift they could have nice stores in their neighborhoods!

I love how people expect stores to just stay there and take the losses, take the crime. It’s downright hilarious. I love how these stores just close the door and tell the employees we have a lot of other stores you can work at all while giving those customers the middle finger. Get ready, this is just the tip of the iceberg. I have no love for Walmart, but totally side with them in this case.

I can already envision what is going to happen.
I see massive HOA enclaves, gated with security of course. I see much smaller local grocery stores INSIDE the enclave. Florida has some of these mega communities but most of the stores are just outside. Just wait, I give it under 10 years, maybe even 5. It’s going to happen.
The small stores will be for quick pick ups, but I suppose most goods will be delivered and a lot of brick and mortar places are going to go poof!
That’s when people will try to hit the trucks and delivery methods.

What? They clear 16 billion in profits a year; that's profits, that's after all inventory, wages, rent, power, phone lines, bills are paid. They could keep every store open as long as they want to with a 16 billion dollar profit spread. The shoplifting is caused primarily by Walmart not wanting to pay cashiers and forcing customers to check themselves out.

I.E.
The problem is generated by Walmart themselves, and even with the issue; they are still clearing wicked profits that allow them to keep all of their locations open, even if that particular location was operating at a loss, which it's not.

How could you side with Walmart?

Remember when loss was part of doing business and the total annual loss was used to set prices? I do. All of the people NOT stealing are paying for the stuff being stolen.

I know right from wrong…………….

Unfortunately a lot of people don’t anymore.
Nobody is FORCED to shop at Walmart. It is a choice.
It doesn’t matter if they are at a LOSS or at a GREAT PROFIT. Stealing/shoplifting is wrong.
Shoplifting is not caused by lack of cashiers. I go to stores all the time without cashiers and I don’t shoplift.

people just don't understand just how bad shoplifting is.

I know how bad it is.

This is years ago I went in and there were people shoving things in their bras, openly putting things in bags.
I went to check out (real cashier) and then they tried to harass me over my receipt. I said look, if you really want to stop shoplifting go after the actual shoplifters, not the people that pay!
I then made a conscious effort to just not shop there, and I don’t. I don’t miss it either.

"I’ve also been hearing about 15 minute cities. I wonder if this is all part of a bigger plan."

It is, and it's happening in the UK and Europe. But it's not a model that works well in the US because our cities are too spread out and fragmented.

Yeah, not sure how that would work for my area. We don’t have one grocery store within 15 minutes. We only have one restaurant and absolutely nothing is really “walkable”.
It would have to be a 30 minute city 🤣

The problem with Walmart is selection. The ones in my area have a poor selection of the things I look for.

I might otherwise shop online.

Read some snippets from locals on the comments section.

1000000000000% caused by shoplifters, from the people that live there saying so.

I guess this is a pretty busy store but they lost their tax breaks from the city and that with the addition of the shoplifting is just too much. I guess that area has a lot of elderly too. Maybe for Walmart it is easier to close up shop there than deal with any kind of fallout of them fighting elderly shoplifters…

Comment from FB link to the story I posted.

My company provides certain maintenance services for this Walmart and this Walmart is definitely not closing because it’s not busy it’s always packed it’s most likely the crime they pay extra to have extra security 24 seven there portable camera units all around the building . Definitely a shame for the people who actually need the store.

Are you claiming Walmart isn't corrupt?

Are you actually trying to convince someone that the thugs looting the stores in the big demwit cities are doing so because they personally believe that Walmart, etc is corrupt and has stolen from them personally, not because 'free stuff'?

Things are nuts in South Africa, but at least we do not let shoplifters run rampant (with exceptions)

Here is the ex Springbok Rugby Captain chasing down a shoplifter recently. The average person in SA applauds this, as does the police and government.
Jean De Villiers catches shoplifter

he 6ft 3in rugby powerhouse shook his head and put down his shopping as the thief began to exit the store. Jean went after the man in what appears to be a pair of sliders, not the ideal footwear for chasing anyone down.

As the thief caught wind that he was being hunted down by a towering figure, he took off. Jean's footwear unsurprisingly flew off in the pursuit, but seconds later Jean was escorting the suspect back into the shop holding his hoodie, with the bag in his other hand.

So... how do you like your shiny new TV you stole from WalMart?

But seriously... how do you like it?

All of the people NOT stealing are paying for the stuff being stolen.

And you're ok with that?

Tell you what... tell us all here where you live, and let's see how you like it qhwn someone stops by to relieve you of your shiny new WalMart TV you walked out with last week...

The exceptions, I mention are the recent looting that took place, mostly in Kwazulu Natal and Gauteng provinces, but most believe that was a failed political attempt to destabilize the country by ex=president Zuma supporters and allies.

I know that neighbor"hood". Sales nationwide at Walmart's are falling fast. Nobody wants the tons of Chicom crap, they are broke. Food runs out very quickly at many locations, and this problem will explode. You now have huge population areas with very few food supply centers, and spot shortages grow by the day. Coupled with food inflation at at a guaranteed 40% and reduction of Govt. benefits, it ain't gonna be the Summer of Love.

You act as though you yourself are not embedded in the evil, corrupt system. You want to believe that you hold yourself apart. I've got news for you. You are not separate. You are a component. You are a cog in the system and it's likely you will go down with the system when it finally, completely crumbles.

Let's play suppose.

Suppose it all comes down. What happens when it dies?

Second verse, same as the first. New systems. Same flawed people working them. Same corruption. Gems like yourself who refuse time and again to see that it really is as simple as treating others the way you want to be treated.

Every time we get here and burn it down and billions die, we just repeat the same mistakes because people are stupid and always think they know better, always think they are better.

Like I said - burn it down. Be evil and discover that evil cannot create. It only destroys.
