You are why I drink.

Edit here.

Lads having a conversation that might help.

Then my disappointment in humanity chimes in.

Welcome to the family brother.

I grew up with two raging alcoholics who could not control themselves. I too have that “gene” that supposedly guarantees alcoholism. I have found that will power and better life choices will stop you from becoming an alcoholic, or… help you stop it at any time. I don’t have the addictive personality where my body is wired for booze. I have a wine cellar full of it, and yet the only people who really drink my stuff are people who house sit for me, and friends who come over. I rarely if ever drink.

The crazy part about being able to take or leave alcohol is looking at the massive collection of booze I have hoarded in case of an apocalyptic event where it will be needed for barter. That said I applaud your will and self restraint. Sometimes we are blessed with the things we do not have more so than what we do. a reply to: JAGStorm

Really interesting the different views.

Not putting anyone down but I think lots of lads don't know what it is to be addicted. It's my best friend that I never wanna see again...until right now.

Alcoholism is a disease was classified so by the American Medical Association in 1954. It’s a chronic , progressive, fatal disease And anyone who thinks it’s a moral issue of will power is uneducated, and really needs to read the 100s off peer reviewed scientific studies proving this.

Congratulations it sounds like you aren’t an alcoholic!
I say this from many years Sober that real alcoholics can’t quit under their own will power. A real alcoholic does not have the ability to control the amount they drink once it’s injested or be able to quit when they promise themselves to quit or moderate.

It took 7 years and 6 rehabs, 3 detoxes and 3 psychiatric wards for me to even admit thatI had a drinking problem.

When I asked God to relieve me of the obsession to drink and I turned my life and my will over to him and worked the 12 steps of recovery was when the obsession was lifted.

If anyone can quit on their own my hat is off to you because I certainly tried for years but my so called “ will power” was non existent.

I dont think so.. I did it on my own.
AA is for weak people
But it does help people , just not for me.

Alcohol addiction in my thinking is a marketing tool for the hospital wards. You take away the money from the addict, they quit drinking . PERIOD
Can you stop drinking permanently? Yes, of course. But a trained shrink (psychiatrist ) will want you as a patient ( in house ) and make money off of you . They know if you are hospitalized to try to stop drinking, it doesn't work in the real world. You STOP DRINKING ON YOUR OWN ACCORD, SAME WITH SMOKING CIGS

You nailed it.

Frankfurt school and that word that rhymes with hava sock.

Seek help collie, all your posts in this thread sound like veiled or even overt cries for help. Bash AA and recovery or even me all you want.

I am free and your clearly in chains and in pain.

The choice is always yours it’s a mess you got yourself into and it’s a mess you CAN get yourself out of. It begins and ends with you and there are lots of helping hands out there to help pull you up.

Cheers man.

Sorry if I'm coming across as bashing anything.

My life is pretty good.

Things are a bit wild now, popin the cap on a bottle is a momentary solution but somethin to work on after.

Been talkin to freinds of mine who are addicts about this thread.

There is alot here to deconstruct.

Perhaps we can get a lil light to shine on our darkness if we try to be kind.

Sun even shines on yer mas hole sometimes.
