Yes! same

I remember me and my brother had a whole box filled with little plastic toy soldiers, cowboys and indians. I used to place them carefully on and under the living room furniture, under the table, between the chairs,... It took me a long time to set them up how I wanted it. But while I was doing this I was already playing out whole scenario's in my head. In the end, I only played with them 'inside my head' . My brother on the other hand had to actually interact with the toys to play with them.
I guess that sounds weird to a lot of people

Not to me, my Mums living room carpet saw many a war play out in my mind.

Fun times.

Even when my lad was younger i would build lego toys with him and we would play out all sorts of scenarios. He would always make me go the "bad guys" while his lego figures would come in to save the day. Think i had more fun than him. I miss those days so much.

Oh, I listen to music, and I have the volume cranked. Sometimes, this is why my internal dialogue goes external. If I'm talking out loud, it's a bit like reading out loud; I am not quite so submerged in it, so I don't lose track of external life.

I used to doodle and make up stories about what I was drawing. I would get caught up in that. I would also create systems and watch patterns and create stories about those. I still do that. It's the basis of my Rimworld addiction honestly.

Food for thought -- for folks like me who think & internally talk more in images & sensation recall before we go the auditory route, is that transition in the belfry from thought to speech similar to how a multi-language speaker thinks, then speaks?

I mean, I don't immediately notice when I go from "watching TV on mute" (I guess) internally to "Oh hey, volume's on!" externally/vocally. Thus, since I've many a time observed my husband bounce languages without realizing it in the same manner, I've wondered if those processes might share the proverbial boat here.

When I'm writing, I hear my characters talking see their actions and they take on a life of their own and I'm just the guy recording it. They are separate entities from my imagination; At least it seems that way. Perhaps it's a result of my disassociation from my environment when I was a child...but that's another story....Living in a fantasy world is both a blessing and a curse.

I wrote a similar thread here: WHo's inside your head?

I don’t believe the OP. Everyone has the ability to think and use language, it’s an innate part of human nature.

Anyone that goes to school can learn to read and write. I remember when I was in school there was even a “Creative Writing” course you could take. And while it is true that some were much better than others at conveying thoughts through words, much as an artist can convey beauty through paint on a canvass, everyone had the capability to write dialogue and scenes they imagined in their minds.

In fact that does make me conjecture something that most likely is true, just as some people are naturally gifted at drawing, others may have the natural gift of speech, writing. It would seem to me such people would be on websites such as this one where the written word is mostly used. And just as even the worst of artists can take drawing courses and get better, even the worst of writers (thinkers) can edumacate themselves, practice writing, reading a lot, and get better at it.

I don’t believe the OP, not one single bit. While I do believe, come to think of it, that the internal voice may be naturally stronger in some than others.

nowhere did I say that there are people that can't read, write, be creative, ....

I said that there are people who never experience an internal dialogue, that was what the OP was about.

I didn't believe it either, until I started asking around. Why don't you do the same, ask people you know if they have internal conversations. Then come back here

I'd say even when shutting ATS off, and I'm sober I still experience internal chatter, like OCD.

Although I suppose any social activity demands a kind of life-review; it's not the hang-out as such.

And the lines I say to myself, they need analysis, and investigation.

So it's bringing into consciousness issues I would have otherwise squirreled away.

Accepting that life (and mental health) is never going to be perfect, that can be quite valuable.

Actually, if you read through my post you can actually see internal dialogue happening. What I was writing was an example of how it is a part of human nature and everyone has it. Sometimes it is good to write something simple and let people think about it.

Even those people who believe the absurd claim have to use internal dialogue to come to the conclusion to believe it.

Good day CriticalStinker. Your post reminds me of an interesting essay over at the Viewzone magazine. There's many fascinating articles there. I've found The Bicarmel Mind Adventure comes to mind.

It's a lengthy read. It explores ideas about our mind, and topic of this thread. Reading it gave me a better idea of various considerations, that my help someone understand themselves better.

Consider checking it out, at your leisure.

I feel much the same.

I'll talk to myself while waiting or as a form of introspection. Often reflecting in this way, helps me find the words to express myself better with my friends and family. After I express myself, the feedback usually gives me a more clear understanding of my thoughts within.

Thank you.

This is a good reminder. I often have felt reluctant expressing myself for fear of not getting it right, right off the bat. Realizing we're works in progress has been liberating. More lately, I just put it out there and hope for the best.

Good morning. I tend to lean towards a more auditory description of my thought process, though I can relate. The image and sensation way I percieve reminds me of when I'm dreaming.

I can speak another language fairly well, and used to study French before. When I'm speaking other languages it flows best when I follow up the imagery/sensation with thoughts in that language.

Thinking in English and translating it to French for example feels a bit cumbersome compared to keeping it French for the entire expression.

Imo, this is why learning language in immersion or through adventures traveling in places where the language is spoken may be an easier way to learn to speak that way.

Imo, the mutations are partially a result of cosmic rays interacting with biology.

I don't know if that's by design. I hope that it could help improve survivability better in changing conditions of the local environment.
