I'm not sure he's worried as he'll have a captive audience for his own brands be it cars, phones, starlink, batteries or whatever he does next.. when feathered together owning twitter makes it all quite rounded..

so the 2 way street includes advertisers giving up that immediate and direct access to someone else during a recession.. the modern world is shaped around immediate access and it'll be interesting to watch that part collapse..

but this was always going to be the result of using social media this way that it would bounce control from one side to the other.. the hubris sits with those who thought they could be in control forever as the god or gods where on their side or like the eu they can reclaim control through threats..

Asmodeus3 Twitters moderation system is in tatters down to the fact that Musk has laid-off about 7,500 employees or thereabouts.

These places need to be moderated appropriately for some very obvious reasons.

As to real blows so far that seems to be to Elon Musk's bank account.

I'm absolutely certain he's not the least bit bothered.
And to be honest, neither am I.

I've only ever been on Twatter a handful of times and its only been looking at a few links posted on here.

I stopped going on Farsebook - or Farcebook, both are equally applicable - years ago.
I was sick of people posting #e like 'In Costa having Coffee'....well what the #ing hell else would you be doing in there and why on earth do you think I'm even remotely interested in such bollocks?

And then there's the non-stop drivel and unsubstantiated utter nonsense, from all sides and all perspectives.

I understand that the world has changed and for some people social media is a big thing, but not for me.

I don't like Musk.
Just as I don't like Jeff Bezos, Zuckerberg, Bill Gates et al.

Musk can let people post what he wants - his site.
Just as people can advertise on there if they want - their products/services etc.

My comment about freedom being a two street is more regarding the increasing number of people who seem to want to censor any opinion that differs from their own.

It is fascinating in a horrifying sort of way to realize that all of the expanded contact with other people that technology has brought has led back to life in a small, remote village: a certain clique controls the narrative and ensures those who don't go along get shunned and exiled.

Cheers

oh I'm not far from your position, I tend to look at this stuff through open source front ends so i don't need to join.. as I do find it all fascinating given how its impacting our world and how this immediacy is controlling everything from a local shop to corporates to MPs.

as for freedom I'm not sure anyone especially govs actually understand any of that stuff anymore, they certainly don't believe in democracy or the democratic process.

In your estimate, how many employees should a Social Media company like Twitter have?

It would be a complete guess and mere speculation because I'm simply not qualified to answer.

Suffice to say given the user base probably quite a few.

Apparently 1 active mod per every 600 viewers is a number that gets tossed around.

I'm not a Twitter user myself nickyw.

My Mrs made me an account for some reason but i don't think I've every used the thing to be honest.

Given the state Musk appears to have made of the place, and chaos he is willing to unleash, and also reinstitute, so as to cause controversy and stir the pot.

Its not really any wonder the EU and companies like Apple which host the platform are raising and eyebrow or two.

But the fact of the matter is that Twitter had problems long before Musk arrived, that doesn't mean its a good idea to add to them or compound the problem which the man in questions seem to be doing.

not just any kind of village but feudal villages pre reformation..

so we've really not changed and women are back to being fishwives to be held in scold bridles for speaking out (or its modern tech eqiv)..

there was an fascinating protest the other day as women gathered to speak at the reformers tree in london, the counter protesters had signs demanding the trans be armed in the face of women speaking..

this is how the right to bear arms (UK & USA) came into being as the RC wanting to be armed in the face of unarmed protestants speaking the wrong kinds of thoughts scared them silly..

its one of the reasons I feel this has the legs to become a western reformation rather than lots of civil conflicts.. as its more a shifting sea of sand than left vs right..

They needn't bother. Musk is likely to implode and destroy the platform through his own incompetence, so there probably won't be anything left to ban. Give him a year, the problem will solve itself.

LOL. Ahh… one of those smarter than Musk types.

Musk is another of those failed multibillionaires the hate filled left harp on about! (when it needs to suit their agenda)

The EU are always panicking about US-run social media companies, which is their prerogative. Much of it is the politics of data, and the laws in the EU and other European nations concerning data privacy and similar issues. Also concern about monopolies and the influence a few companies have on society, which is a legitimate concern for normal people too.

It's a perennial issue. Makes a few grey suits in Brussels feel good. The same grey suits who sit on Twitter and iPhones and try to calculate where these companies can be best taxed to enrich the Republic of Ireland.

It looks like their moderation system functioning well. The last owners had a major issue as they wanted to censor and silence everyone who didn't abide by the radical left wing lunacy and their absurd and ludicrous ideas. You need to have thousands of moderators to censor so many accounts. I don't think Musk wants to employ as many back and of these 'qualities' as he doesn't want to censor free speech as it seems.

If "Twitter" was functioning well Apple and the EU would not have concerns as to the content being hosted there or be threating to remove the platform because of lack of moderation.

Nor would Musk be forced to reemploy staff he already sacked.

Far as i can establish thus far Elon has done little but contribute to and compound the problems associated with the site.

Want Musk wants and what he seems to be getting for his $44 Billion appear to be two different things.

most social media sites have open source front ends you can use to look around without joining, I do that rather than join as I know I'd end up commenting and dragged into the poison..

as for twitter its pure poison.. far too many companies/corporates/MPs accept being driven by twitter activists who could be from anywhere, while govs at the same time want to be the ones doing the driving which is what the EU, British, Scottish govs want as like Iran, Russia, china or north Korea they want to control debates and quash scandals that make them look bad,,

twitters death might not be a bad thing as along with the bankrupt new liberal ideology that created it.. the question at the moment is should governments, US, EU UK etc who claim to be champions of free expression be crotch deep as censors.. its less 1984 and looking more like brave new world..

if it was functioning well before musk, musk would not have the leverage to threaten to release details of who manipulated what election behind the scenes etc

now apple say they never had any intention of kicking twitter off their app store, all following Musks threat to tell on apple..

the issue for musk now is does he release details of the games played by these big corporation to manipulate democracy and our freedoms or will he now sell out.

It is not the role of Apple or any firm to regulate speech on the internet. Another example of 'out of swim lane' activity that is doing our societies no good.

And the EU? You know them well, Andy. They're pound-shop authoritarians with zero positive vision of the future for commoners.

Perhaps the EU should concentrate on fixing their very obvious failings before they worry about a single internet firm. Again, 'out of swim lane'.

Cheers

I keep trying to figure out when all these big firms chose political beliefs over the bottom line.

Sure wasn't that way a couple of decades ago.

Someone, somehow, made it worth their while to do so.

Untold stories.

Cheers
