TIL we have a Moscow in America.

"There are more than 20 towns in America called Moscow."

Well I'll be damned.

It actually happens everyday all over the US of A but most of the time only attractive victims get publicity .. It's a crime of passion or a crime of drugs gone bad not a real who done it .

OR

Dean and Sam are about to show up .

The Winchester's will surely solve it! Probably decapitate something along the way.

They have seemed to rule out multiple people in the case so far including the 2 roommates

I haven't followed the case closely, so I'm kind of surprised the roommates had been cleared. The last I had heard is that there were inconsistencies in their accounts of what happened.

That’s what I saw, that they are not considering them suspects.
Unless they are just saying that to throw them off, I don’t know.

Edit - It shouldn’t be too hard for the police to figure out if it was them.
After 4 murders by stabbing there should be a lot of blood on the perpetrator and they would have to wash it off.
Easy enough to check the drains in the house for blood that was washed off.

Yes, there's so much evidence at the house that police are still working to process it all. They still have a mobile crime-scene unit there.

I have family who have a small farm about 2 miles from the place of the murders, as other members have mentioned it is a rural location, It is also a pretty small town, about 8 miles from Pullman which is not much bigger...maybe double the size of Moscow Just long roads and wide open wheat /lentil fields between the 2 towns.

there is also a small airport between the towns that Horizon passenger carriers use, for what that may be worth...

also as it happens I went to WSU for 3 years back in the 90's, and its a very difficult place to get away with much, (yes, I sat in jail there no less than 3 times for party-related stupidity) but we did get away with stealing 2 goats for a barn dance one night ( we fed them carrots and returned them in good health before dawn...... don't judge me)

Anyways It is my strong belief the police there are keeping tight lipped to protect the investigation as any rumors travel fast over there, and if they do have any leads they don't want the perp to know, My bet is that they eventually will pull in the actual perp, there is just not very many places to hide out there and country folks notice things....

Really a strange case for that area.

I know that area well. Moscow is a small, rural college town in the rolling hills of the Palouse. Historically it's been a very safe and peaceful place to live and go to school. (Imagine going to college in the Shire.)

The house is located in an area just south of campus (easy walking distance) that's popular with out-of-house members of the Greek community. It's just behind what they call "New Greek row."
Lots of party houses there.
One of the big questions has been how the two other room mates didn't hear or see anything, leading to a fair deal of speculation.
I finally came across a good aerial photo of the house. Like a lot of residences in that end of town, it's built into a hillside. The first floor (where the 2 surviving room mates lived) is accessible from the ground on one side (this is where the door with the keycode is located, I believe), but the 2nd floor can be accessed from the other side via a sliding door (which they aren't certain was locked). The murders took place on the second and third floors.
From the looks of it, a perp could definitely have entered on the second level, committed the crimes, and then left without having been on the first floor at all.
On a typical Saturday night (with a home football game as well), a lot of people are going to be passed out and zonked to the world by 3:00am.
Local police have interviewed workers in several stores; they're specifically asking about anyone purchasing a K-Bar-style knife.

Good observation, yes, Saturday night after a football game out there is typically (always) a heavy drinking party night, by 2 or 3 AM there simply is not going to be any sober witnesses, most are indeed completely passed out by then, or stumbling around the fast food places still open.
Reliable witnesses would be in very short supply.

Jealous guy type of murder. One of the girls probably* had some x or some random dude that was jealous or jaded. A knife being the murder weapon is often a "passion weapon."

My son just told me there is a Cult there that are really strange people called the Christ Church.

CC

That church has been operating out of downtown Moscow for years. They’re of the fundamentalist/evangelical persuasion and seem a little out there, but I wouldn’t necessarily call them a cult. They definitely have a beef with the university. They’re always showing up by the library—protesting & preaching to anyone who will listen. (In fact, that’s where I learned that Jimi Hendrix is in hell.)
They also used to send their members into the bookstore to buy up copies of books they didn’t like so they could burn them. One of my philosophy profs had to release his blueboooks in small batches & let us know to go buy them. That kind of activism is about it where the university is concerned.

But Moscow, safe as it is, does have a seedy underbelly if you know where to look. It’s one of those places people can come to blend in & not be found.

Horrendous rage against four people makes me wonder what could cause someone to be filled with that much hate. Did the perp get scorned, ridiculed, bullied by the group at some time?

By the way, it's pronounced 'Moss-co', not 'Moss-cow'.

That house is quite close to the main highway on the south side of town. There’s also a lot of fields and small forested areas nearby. Lots of potential hiding places and exits—both on foot and by vehicle.

Students have reported drone surveillance around the house, & police have been combing one of the wooded areas up behind the house.

I would assume they have a foot print in the blood spatter
They would know what type of shoe and and what size
Possibly the perp would have a at least one cut on his hand and his DNA is left somewhere in there
It's quite possible one of the room mates knows who did this and is yet to tell for what ever reason
It's quite possible there was at least one love triangle going on if not more and alot of times one of the parties gets violently jealous for what ever reason
I think we will hear the truth of this soon

Between 3-4am is the time that most people doing a nightshift struggle to stay awake.

Perhaps the attacker knew that which could imply he's a nightshift worker or has security background.

Killing not one but four people in their sleep is definitely premeditated and to risk one of the victims screaming out and alerting other housemembers makes me believe a strong, calculated, dispassionate man who knew exactly how to kill them one by one without them dying noisily did this.

Not the work of a junkie.

Not a serial killer who chose them as prey.

This was definitely someone on a mission who knew them.

I'm ruling out the housemates as well.

Perhaps the remaining housemates know of something that happened no more than a month ago that might have lead to this.

I believe whatever lead to the killer murdering them so brutally means that his motivation was still relatively fresh in his mind.

Of course, I'm just speculating with the info given in the OP.

Will be interesting to see how this develops over time.

Motives could be:

Rejection
Ridicule
Bullying
Betrayal

I also read somewhere that there were shrooms involved. unconfirmed
That could also appear as a crime of passion when it wasn't, if some newbie tripper thought melting-faced demon monsters were after them.

...just adding to the confusion

I was just reading about this, how friggin' weird a case.

I honestly wonder if maybe it was a family member of one, like a jealous sibling or cousin (don't say it's not possible -- chick in Cali killed her sister & newborn niece because she was jealous they were getting more family attention)

Just a thought.

about a week or so before someone skinned a neighbors dog, and their cat is missing.
cops said that crime is not connected to the murders, ya ok.

so the fbi, state cops all over the place is probably a good idea.

There has been no talk of forced entry either. It could have also been multiple people. There were defensive wounds also on the victims so one of them I would think was not that large if a college age girl could fight back. Maybe it is a female which would be one of the first since Wuornos.

Like when something comes up stolen there is a 98% change the know the person. I think that will come out here also. Whoever killed those kids knew those kids and the ones still alive are so scared they are not saying a word.

Defensive wounds does not necessarily mean they fought back. In a case like this it almost definitely means they tried to protect themselves by putting their hand in the way of the knife.
