I'll attempt to answer this.
There is a Russian word for the time when the rains turn the ground into deep mud - rasputitsa. Travel anywhere off good roads becomes very difficult.
When the temperature drops below zero the ground freezes, so it is much easier to move across fields.
This makes a lot of difference to the ability to fight!

Hard frozen ground allows vehicles to roll cross-country much more easily. Deep mud immobilizes wheeled vehicles and often tracked vehicles as well.
Cheers
A meeting between Ukraine's allies on Friday to discuss providing more arms to the country will be their "last possible" opportunity to prepare Ukraine for fresh Russian attacks, according to our analyst Professor Michael Clarke.
The UK has committed to sending 14 Challenger 2 tanks, among a "possible 100" which could be provided by allied countries depending on the outcome of talks in Rammstein, Germany.
With a minimum of 10 weeks needed to train a tank crew, Professor Clarke said 20 January would be the last date to make a decision if the allies want to arm Ukraine before a renewed Russian offensive - expected early this year.
"YouTube is the information plague of our time," Yevgeny Prigozhin said in a statement posted on his Telegram channel, alleging, without evidence, that 40% of the videos on the platform were "politicised and directed against Russia".
He said there were two reasons why it had not been banned in Russia, which has clamped down on foreign media since invading Ukraine in February: that it was supposedly indispensable for ordinary citizens and, primarily, the opposition of President Vladimir Putin's administration.
"We have a huge number of people on Staraya Square in the Presidential Administration who think only about one thing: if only Russia lost the war as soon as possible, if only the Americans would come and regulate us as soon as possible," Prigozhin said.
"Those who are against the closure of YouTube are, in my opinion, people who are traitors to their people and their country, traitors to previous and future generations of Russians. They live abroad, take holidays abroad, raise children abroad, proclaim high values but, nevertheless, support the West in every possible way and feed on it."

Bulgaria is regarded as one of the few NATO members that, along with Hungary, has publicly opposed supplying Ukraine with weapons amid Kiev’s ongoing conflict with Moscow.
And yet, the government in Sofia was running a secret arms and fuel supply scheme for Ukraine throughout the spring and summer of 2022, Germany’s Die Welt daily reported on Wednesday, citing Ukrainian and former Bulgarian officials. According to Die Welt, the scheme was largely devised by just two men: the former Bulgarian prime minister, Kiril Petkov, and the ex-finance minister, Asen Vasilev. The co-founders of the ‘We Continue the Change’ political movement, both Petkov and Vasilev are Harvard University graduates.
Henry Kissinger, the former U.S. secretary of state, became the latest public figure to dramatically change his opinion about the Ukraine War after facing public backlash.
Kissinger, 99, addressed the World Economic Forum in Davos on Tuesday and spoke about the conflict.
“Before this war, I was opposed to the membership of Ukraine in NATO, because I feared it would start exactly the process that we have seen,” he said. “Now that this process has reached this level, the idea of a neutral Ukraine under these conditions is no longer meaningful.”

Seems they are going full on with the 'holy war' narrative now... so backwards (although its more a mess of everything).
Its funny how they seem to love pushing the idea every other person in the West is gay, or something else and that we're all satanists (although satanism seems to be ruZZian these days for anyone who isnt culturally ruZZian and orthodox)... in the last 2 years ive meet 1 gay person (nice guy) at my brothers wedding, and i dont think in 40+ years ive meet a single satanist (odd religion but hey thats all religions for you)... interesting fact, ruZZia has one of the lowest birth rates in the world, i think its ruZZia thats gonna have the problem finding new fighters (and the ones they are sacrificing for this war are just going to tank that birth rate even more).
If 50 countries are against you... then its fairly probable its not those countries thats the issue. Also another empty nuke threat if ruZZia doesnt win, no more world (although its more along the lines of if ruZZia goes the only thing that mattered to them in the world goes, such myopic self centric thought processes).
Its interesting the rhetoric vibe has gone from 'when we win' to 'if we dont win' over the year... the subtext to that is loud and clear, ruZZia is loosing... which is why they have to push the religious and god angle, everything else has failed its all they have left to use as an angle of motivation.
If gods on ruZZias side, why was/is that huge cold patch sitting ONLY over ruZZia right now? if god is even watching, he's not on ruZZias side thats for sure... at least from how I see god, then again religous people tend to flop between Abrahamic god and new testament god on a whim when needed... even though those two versions of god are vastly different, but if your wanting killers bring out the old testament god and that old divine wrath.
Thinking on it, I think ruZZia is going the way it is for one simple reason... they know that through starting this war they've screwed themselves, given their economy, work force, birth rates etc they've basically screwed themselves into an unrecoverable position if they loose... ruZZia really really has to win or it will collapse as a viable country (as it is shaped now), it cant win however without making that rapid collapse quicker, and even if it wins (lol) the collapse will still happen anyway due to their actions in starting the war in the first place...
ruZZia is done for, no matter the out come... and good riddance.
