Lots of productive and intelligent people are. It in itself isn’t necessarily a bad thing if it’s used to motivate things like drive and the desire to achieve.

Having said that, what would drive an egomaniac to put themselves in a position where they are slandered, reviled, hated, and prosecuted?

I’m leaning towards MAGA. All his adult life he has shown a passion for this. A lot of passion about something is the only thing that would drive an egomaniac to put themselves in the situation that Trump was and is in.

When Hillary and Donald were running against each other, I think it was Julian Assange who said you are voting either for a dose of Gonoreha or Syphilis. Since Donald had the power to wipe his sins and did not. I am not impressed. but I would rather have the clap than the Syph. The problem is people are easily played, I don't think they really want to play the "Patriot is here to save us card" simply because when populism gets going it might not stop. We can be fairly certain at this stage of the game the people running things are not stupid they want to keep running things and protect their generational wealth and power. They like stability and the status quo, and so does everyone else as long as they have enough to get by on. But circumstances that are occurring are beyond most people's control to manage. It is fairly certain that the financial sector in the West is running on fumes, fiat systems always have their use-by date.
Climate change is rapidly affecting world-growing areas. So what we seem to be observing is a managed decline. The world's most powerful have always hedged their bets long before trouble and are holding assets of real wealth that will weather the crisis. Getting any politicians that know what is really going on to jump ship and tackle the real problems is basically asking them to commit suicide. They want a severe drop in the human population as smoothly and as quickly as possible. Simply because the growing areas which will be left won't be enough to sustain the multitudes, and when it gets bad if enough people are left they the ones in the know, will be under severe threat.
So as I see it, most of the world leaders are on board with the plan. The weather will do the rest. The only place you will be safe is underground, where the temperature will be stable, and probably between the 30-degree parallel lines. We are observing the wind-down of this present period in human history, which will most likely just start accelerating from now on. They don't want most of us to know, simply because you can't save everyone anyway. because it would cause too much disruption that would place them at risk. So basically it is all a stage-managed affair, with the MSM saying the things that people want to hear and Donald Joe and all the rest are actors in the play until the final curtain comes down.

If it's a combination of ego and patriotism, then that - as has been dicussed - could be a good thing.

Maybe he miscalculated how bad the backlash would be. Maybe he doesn't care. As I more-or-less stated in muy OP, he has pretty much made it to the apex of world accomplishments. He was famous. He was wealthy. He had connections and influence. Maybe he just wanted to play a new game and didn't care what that meant. He's 76 years old. Maybe he figures if he's going to go out, he'd just as soon go out with a bang!

It could be more complicated than can be easily imagined.

If he was NWO (which I don't believe in), his critics would be six feet under and his bad deals and cheating and things like saying he gave millions to charities when he didn't (note: he DID give... AFTER news media reported that he'd just made the claim but actually didn't send money) would be buried so deep that nobody would be able to find the documents.

He'd love to be #1, but frankly his efforts to "drain the swamp" by putting in more swamp creatures really doesn't make America great. Nor does picking fights with other countries. Nor does taking out military targets based on if he remembers the name or not. Etc.

1. Donald Trump, the real MAGA patriot: This is the persona that he projects, that he clearly wants the world to see. He wants to be perceived as a true defender of the Constitution, a cleaner of the D.C. swamp, a defender of everyman. He's on our side. He says that they are only going through him to get us us. This is the man whom the MAGA crowd adores, whom many consider to be some kind of saviour. He's expected to come riding back in on a white horse to save us all.

#2 - NWO plant - Used as a divisive tool and to placate those of us tired with the usual political candidates, the illusionary resistance. Can I just say to incoserv that I really respect that you are asking these questions.

There are people out there, they are so pro Trump, (or Biden, but since we are talking Trump) it doesn’t matter what he does, he can do no wrong in their eyes.
It gets very concerning that a large portion of his followers don’t even like questions asked. As if just pondering question is SACRILEGIOUS I’ve noticed most of the people commenting on this thread in either direction are some of the more open minded members too, not surprised.
