More discussion on the issue.

Biden did act at the 11th hour to avert a crisis for 30 days.

The amount provided is total compensation and leaves out a few essential facts. The average rail worker is not taking home the net of $135,000 after taxes. Over the past several years, significant layoffs where the carriers retained more expensive classifications also affected the average. For non-union workers in many industries, the total compensation breaks down into 70% wage and 30% benefits. For unionized workforces, it is often closer to 50/50.

If the compensation per worker is too expensive, it might be time to dial down the mandatory benefits to free up that cash to go home with the employee. Both sides have their points. Rail workers are compensated more, but rail workers are not feeling it because the don't take it home. In today's world, they need take home. So perhaps the answer is to remove some of the mandatory payouts before take home alongside a modest increase.

Then more workers need to be found, but better pay allows for that.

I think there are places here for flexibility on both sides that would allow for a solution, but again, we have to see flexibility from both sides.

9.15.2022

As I pointed out yesterday, Joe Biden and MSM were positioning themselves then, to give Joe Biden credit for ending the strike that never started.

As noted previously

Union members get to vote on their contracts

When the members vote for this let someone know, as they can still vote no.
