There have been different points where society went through a big change.
While there are big changes, subtle changes happen too.

I am of the belief that words have power.

For most of us that are old enough we remember Uranus being called YourAnus. Every single kid made a joke about it.
That’s just what it was called.

Somewhere in the early 2000’s it stopped being called that. It was called Urrran-us.
Now today I heard it pronounced yet another way Urahn -uhhsss.

This is not a complicated word, isn’t it weird it has changed in such a short span of time? Wonder why.
I looked up some mythology and there is all kinds of interesting things about Uranus, rain, overthrowing, but this one stands out,
DECEPTION.

The last few times I've heard it, it was urine-us

Language is power- making jokes about anuses taught us that butt jokes were funny.

Now we've got kids growing up that like to lick buttholes, but get offended if you wear the wrong color hat.

I don't know when the world got so broken.

I remember when we Neanderthal was Knee-an-der-th-all, yet now it's knee- an--der-tall. Tinnitus was tine-ite-es, not tin-a-tis.

I've wondered why the pronunciation has been changing on so many worlds; did we just discover after many decades that we were all saying it wrong?

I've also noted how websites and games change faster than I can keep up with them; function buttons get moved, replaced or disappear altogether. Is it designed to get us used to constant change? To realize we aren't the ones in control of much of our life now?

The conspiracy mind never rests.

As an older gentleman, I think society changed and not for the better, when prayer was removed from school. For better or worse that’s the way I see it.

Excellent examples. Tinnitus is a weird one. I totally remember the first way and now everyone says that is incorrect.
Well it wasn't incorrect for 100 years!

Im prepared for the flaming, hit me with all yall got.

The world changed drastically with the internet.

From its inception to current we have never been so close yet so far apart as a species. Counter culture breeds culture which breeds counterculture in this very peculiar, unsustainable loop which eventually, perhaps now, can not be sustained in the real world.

You aren't wrong we lost a sense of community a sense of belonging to something. All I know is growing up we knew every family on our few blocks, if somebody was in trouble there was a neighbor there that you could go to.

I don't think we will ever get that back...

Or stopping to help complete strangers broke down on the side of the road. I'm sure it still happens, but not as often as it used to. People don't even want help anymore. They'll just sit in the vehicle and call someone to come help. (which may be a long drive)

I put it about 2008 and social media has just fueled it ever since.

Heretic I say LOL.

The internet definitely sped the trip along but we were already headed there long before dial-up modems, hell some would say cable TV.

It's a combination of events, psychoses, and social engineering making celebs and sports heroes most people's American Dream. The Consumer Generation was our downfall when everybody had to have a new thing, and everything became mass-produced cheaply enough so everyone could buy one on credit

participation trophies helped too.
everyone had to be a winner. now i's being a victim that's in.

I so agree with this.

A little while ago one of my daughters had her friends over (teenagers).
My kid is an advid crocheter. Her friends were so interested and the both of us showed the friends how to crochet.
There wasn't a phone in sight. All the girls were paying attention like you wouldn't believe. They were obsessed. It made me incredibly sad.

Our youth longs for this kind of interaction but it is non existant. The other sad sad sad sad thing. None of them wanted me to make food or make it for themselves, they wanted microwave macaroni because that is what they are used to eating at home.........I don't think i've ever had microwave macaroni and I can't believe people are surviving off of it.

Sure, we can point out events that serve as a catalyst. However these event couldnt have been propogated as effectively or had as much of sway without the internet.

Did you know regional dialect and verbiage is going away? From manhattan to new jersey to chicago to milwaukee from south to north etc.

Its a vastly different world between X'ers and early millenials compared to gen Z and after.

When they say that they were raised for a world that no longer exists, thats not hyperbole.

Just because group prayer wasn't allowed in the classroom, my friends and I would pray when and wherever we felt like it.

Some times the teachers and administration joined in. We were also nondenominational, everyone was welcome. We even chanted "Nam Myho Renge Ko" with an Asian exchange student. Very progressive for Lubbock, Texas!

Once I wanted a prayer circle forum here on ATS, but was denied. Perhaps the new owner will give it some consideration.

As an older woman, I remember my Jewish friend having to participate in the Christmas pageant,

That bothered me.

I'd say the biggest change in society was after WWII -- when women refused to go back to the kitchen.

Men make war. Men went to war.

Women had to "be everything - do everything".

Once you experience freedom and independence -- you're not likely to easily give it up.
