I am very well versed in hipaa. That is pretty much what I said. Your doctor may ask but you don't have to provide that information unless that was
the purpose for the visit in the first place.
Any medical information, especially things psych related, can not be distributed unless the office releasing the information has a signed release form
from the patient which only allows release of that information to a specific entity. That release can also be withdrawn at any time by the patient.
Any government agency or other third party that attempts to seek out that information for purposes such as gun ownership is committing a gross
violation of hipaa protocols.
