If it is what all countries do, and i agree, then why is everyone so surprised russia raised the ante?

Because it is the big no no as I said... Its like Will Smith instead of slapping Rock he beat him to death with a baseball bat saying keep my wife's name out of your F'ing mouth. Well all comedians make fun of people, yea but people don't go off too because of it.

Are you sure all investments were "at Ukraine's request?"

Or was it more like a "request" for protection, like how the mob does for small business?

Or do you think it's ok for russia to invade china next, since the U.S. has so many 'assets' there?

That bait aint workin. Based on the part you already agreed with

So in your analogy, an open handed slap is acceptible?

I get what youre saying though.

I think a more accurate question is to ask why russia believes invasion was the only discourse knowing full well that win, lose or draw, it would only embolden the one thing, nato, that they wish to steer clear of if not push away.

Now russia has given up any diplomacy on day 1 of the invasion. Quite a precarious position.

The DOOM and FEAR MONGERS believe the Russian army epitomizes a force of mass death and destruction.

The Russian Army is Preparing to Attack For Real This Time, says Zelenskyy: www.forbes.com...

The weird part of this so called western puppet Goverment was they were pushing back on both Russia and NATO. Even weeks before the invasion they were telling NATO it was no big deal, stop worrying. It really wasn't until Russia fully attacked that Ukraine suggest a NATO alliance. Also what is Putin to gain with the huge losses and little return. I truly think he believed his own ideas that the majority of the people would cheer him on and he would walk right into Kyiv.

Well 80% of the people hate Russians, and I'm sure a good chunk of the remaining 20% do too, and we are seeing that right now.

Zelensky was promised NATO publicly. Privately, and i cant yet find the source, was told no, and not any time soon. Was even rebuffed by biden himself late last year.

To say that there is no threat of Ukraine joining NATO is apt.

If we know this, how could russia not? Unless there is some part of that puzzle missing.

Maybe zelensky has more to gain by asking the global community for arms and aid IDK.

In Ukraine?

Again, I bring my same point to the discussions.
If Ukraine is doing such a great job defeating the incompetent Russian army, then they do not need our weapons or money.

No need to shore up that which does not need it.

They are doing with our weapons and money, and they still don't have enough to defeat russia militarily, and most of the money is for humanitarian & rebuilding.

Yea, the people there really do not like Russia. I have like 10 friends from Ukraine and they all hate Russia even though they all speak Russian, one was once a mig pilot. Close to 80% of the population are not Russian, people keep thinking the Russian population is huge, but it is not, its around 13 to 15% and mostly in the east. Even with Crimea people will say it is 95% Russian when it is actually 60%.

That's why you need to create war for more practice.

I don't think the Russian military are incompetent but their leadership did underestimate the level of resistance the Ukrainian military and the people of Ukraine would put up , they also misjudged the reaction of the International community to the attack on a Sovereign country.

Mistakes were made.

Leadership misjudged the people of Ukraine.. and the reaction of the international community... that is the definition of incompetance. LOL

Russian Nazis? Thats laughable.

Funny how democrats cozy up to Fidel Castro, Kim Jong Un and Maduro. Xi? Saudis? Iran? Taliban? Sure!

But Russia? Those Nazis? Like Ukraine's Azov batalion. Actual Nazis.

I hope Russia takes Ukraine just so we stop having to hear about it 24/7 every time they steal their way into the White House

We need a big sign for Ukraine and its supporters: "US IS CLOSED FOR WARMAKING. WE HAVE ENOUGH PROBLEMS OF OUR OWN TO DEAL WITH. FIGURE IT OUT. LOVE, THE US."

Trump cozied up to Kim Jong Un more than any democrat I have seen in recent history.. same with the Saudi's and Maduro... but don't let reality get in the way of your rant.

Great OP

Here's how I see it.

Both Russia and the West have been # kicking poorly armed/controlled countries (Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria conflicts) for years and its given an illusion of invincibility to the respective armed forces, as its been our tech vs predominantly older tech.

But here we are with a 'modern' war where numerically superior attackers, with mid level tech are being out thought and out fought by defenders with force multipliers and home advantage. In other words, this is much more real.

Add to that the shocking logistics, and the fact that Russians seem to have ignored Rule #1 of combat that well fed and well led troops produce results and what you are seeing is an embarrassment on their part.

My guess - and that's all it is - is that Putin is either long-term (terminally) ill, or his position of power is not as secure as he thought, so a war is a good way of solidifying his legacy or grip on power.

Is Russia a paper bear? No, not with all those nukes BUT, this is definitely a paper campaign.

Yeah, if they were more like the American forces, they would just bomb hell out of anything and everything, including schools, hospitals and apartment complexes, Shock & Awe Style.

Instead, they used precision munitions to take out only military targets.

What a contrast in styles!

Its called diplomacy. The leftist should try it sometime.

Instead of barking orders, running your mouth and wishful thinking. IE, how Biden and Obama spoke to Putin and Russia. It was disrespectful and the wrong tone.

This country is 2x the cesspool Russia is.

No they didnt. They just refuse to use US tactics like melting the face off a little toddler just to try and bomb a target.

You realize the US government/military and world governments and militaries were the real terrorists all along right?

Wow you got that completely backwards. Russia only used precision weapons the first two days now they are down to whatever they can launch or throw.

They turned this into an artillary war which is stupid because this isn't 1941.

US troops would have taken the country in less than a week and it wouldn't have involved leveling their cities like Russia has.

Well they can't win without our help and mainly our technology. No matter how out of shape Russia may be they are still a sizable force that can attack in large numbers from multiple direction due to that size. The goal of Ukraine is not to win, but make it so damn painful Russia stops.

They are indiscriminately throwing artillery every which way. One town had 66 attacks in less than 24 hours and only civilians were hit, as example.
