Well I would say that Western Media crossed at least the first line already. Death threats against Russians fly on social media, unpunished and accepted.

How would any US President react if that exact same thing was done in... let's say Cuba while Cuban citizen with US ties have faced violence and war for 8 years from the Cuban government. And Russia is helping Cuba figuring out nukes.

Just because his is an in your face multi-decade autocrat doesn't make him any less of a ruling elite. He is the de facto head of all things Russia, all power is consolidated with him. I'd say he has even more domestic control than Xi who at least has to go to his own party to get reelected. Putin just has to say, 'Nyet, try again'.
