Terminator 2 had to be amazing in a cinema.
5th Element blew me away but I was stoned with Pineapple Express-like stuff so it's not fair.
The same with Cloverfield (2008). Very cinematic. Lol. Instant regret smoking stuff when it started. Cinema is a trap. It attacks the senses and you cant leave 😀

Conan the Barbarian is epic.

but Forrest Gump never failed to make me cry. It's spiritual. From the start to the credits it makes you feel that it's been the best movie ever made.

My top three in no particular order.
Let There Be Blood.
Dr Strangelove.
The Unforgiven.

Can't argue with any of those, I assume you meant There will be Blood with Daniel Day Lewis? if so yes those all are great films.

My all-time favorite movies are ones I'll watch whenever and know them so well I can come in at any moment and still get into the story.

The Godfather 1 and 2
The Bridge over the River Kwai
Jaws
Matrix
Saving Private Ryan
Rocky
Office Space
There Will be Blood
The Shawshank Redemption
The Good The Bad and the Ugly
Unforgiven
Pulp Fiction
One Flew over the Cuckoo's nest
Young Frankenstein

so many more

Amazingly Ive never watched any of the Lord of the Rings movies, I always meant to read the stories and then watch the movies and just never did either. Fantasy was always a category I have to be in the right mood to enjoy and it's hard for it to capture my attention and imagination sometimes.

It looks like you have similar tastes to me, Road to Perdition is another good one. My favourite TV show ever has to be The Sopranos though, it's genius.

The second Cecil B DeMilles ten commandments.
The King of King's.
The Greatest Story Ever Told.
Jesus of Nazareth.
The Passion of the Christ.
The Song of Bernadette.

But if we leave those and there religious nature out of it.

Gone with the Wind (not my taste but it is an undoubtedly great movie and definitely one of the greatest ever made).

Blade Runner (Deckard was definitely a Replicant).

Star Wars episode IV it was pure cinematic magic and sparked a renaissance in the science fiction genre.

Guardians of the Galaxy (no real reason just the first movie in that franchise was such a feel good movie to watch on the back of a desert of bad movies and really enjoyable if childish so maybe not one of the greatest but one I personally enjoyed).

But there are many movies from the silver screen era that are actually very good indeed, Rebecca (1940 version) for one was a great movie, the Big Sleep another classic.

In modern movies I would say that I like the new Star Wars series, they are not the greatest anything but I like them.

I also liked the Star Trek reboot movies, sad that the kid that played Chekov died but apparently there is a new one in the works.

Other than that I would argue title of greatest movie ever made would require someone whom had seen a lot more movies than I have just to begin to suggest one and with me being a cultural barbarian well my opinion is not worth much on the subject.

I missed that one, a very prophetic look at the future that is too close to reality to ignore and also for that reason scary, it also had one of the best fist fights of any movie of it's era, bit ropey by todays standards but it was cool back then and those sun glasses.

Best movie of all time . . .

Not sure but I'll mention an oldie, Out of the Past.

A film noir from 1947 with Robert Mitchum, Kirk Douglas, Jane Greer filmed in Acapulco, Lake Tahoe, and around Cali. Lots of twists, fights, femme fatales, beautiful views and cool.

You should be able to watch it here:

One thing I have against the Matrix is that it stole so many of it's ideas from the 1990 Schwarzenegger Total Recall movie, a movie that was hated by fans of the novel but that introduced us to the pill to re-enter reality scene albeit very different to the scene in the matrix (it works the other way around with a character trying to convince him reality is not real and he is in a delusion - matrix - and to take the pill and return to reality - the real delusion).
Even the matrix can be seen as a version of the virtual vacation they can take in that movie.
A very under rated movie for it's time but by todays standards poor special affects and of course Arnold is not a great actor though he does have plenty of charisma and screen presence.

I actually prefer that to the newer and more accurate to the book Total recall movie (which I did not even enjoy watching by comparison to the fun romp that was Arnie's movie).

Office Space

Thanks for that one.

I love Stephen Root. A little of best of Milton.

Actually, Arnold's Total Recall is another one I can get caught up in too. Collin Ferrell and Kate Beckinsale version was indeed a disappointment

I understand your point on the Matrix, I'll add the caveat, the Matrix at that time wasn't just the storyline it was about the special effects, pace, and cinematography it wasn't like most films, now all of those positives have become the norm.

It would seem so, Road to Perdition was damn good, Jude Law was really good into it too, most times he irritates me, however.

I got caught up in the Sopranos late in the game but yes when I went back and watched from the beginning masterfully done.

Im way more discriminating on episodic TV only a few maintain excellence throughout its run. Soprano's, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul I can watch when they are on anytime. Ozark is okay, but shows just don't hold my interest, I wanted to like Ridley Scott's "Raised by Wolves" but it lost me by episode 6 or 7

The Godfather! And Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (with Depp).

I read the LOTR books and the movie ruined it for me. Started and could not stop reading.
