well I just checked my theater and on the 7th only that movie is showing as stated.

imo its likely some gorilla viral marketing campaign for paid for promotion type deal?

I am starting to think a planned lock down to be attributed to Omni.

Going to keep looking but we don't have long to find out. Interesting though that that day, the last day of other movies is

666 days since the official pandemic and also
Trump to give a press conference that day
the 1 year anniversary of the "insurrection".

no doubt its odd but my money is on some viral marketing campaign. many people are cutting themselves off from traditional media and im sure movie marketing has been impacted.

i know i have never heard of the movie before until you posted this and likely wouldnt have as i have given up on Hollywood, traditional media and getting excited about any new release, so i say its working in getting the movie promoted

It's a screen management thing.

They know that this movie will be released on this day, and how many screens they plan on having the first weekend.

They also know they need screens available for other movies, specifically the 800 pound gorilla that is Spider-Man, but also smaller nods to Sing 2 and The King's Man. They need to get those in the screens to, as they're making money still. Probably some markets will still have a fair amount of screenings of The Matrix as well.

But aside from concerns of Covid lockdowns, we're also coming out of the holidays. People are back to work and school and have less time for entertainment. Also worth a mention that historically, pre-pandemic anyway, January was a garbage month for movie releases, and that was mostly due to the Golden Globes and awards season (likewise for February and Academy Awards).

This has as much to do with getting butts in seats for screenings as it does fulfilling contractual obligations to the studios and distribution companies.

Still say by Wednesday, at the latest, the rest of the theaters will have screenings listed and tickets for sale.

So this is just coincidental to it?

yeah i was thinking the same that is likely to happen .

like i said i dont keep up to date or care about new releases anylonger due to epic disappointment and freakin overdose of super hero crap. is spiderman part 300 release date on the 7th? if so you are likely right about movie management.

That's for Ontario, Canada. Why would the lockdown there, in Canada, affect theater operations in the United States?

Pretty heavy advertising to a low quality movie. I see Japan and many other countries are saying they have the same thing showing no movies after the 6th.

Spider-Man released over the holidays, but has been making nearly pre-pandemic levels of sales. So far over US$600M domestically and an additional US$750M foreign. That's in 17 days.

We should really be thanking Tom Holland. He clearly cured Covid in his Spider-Lab.

like cmdrkeenkid said you will likely see other movies pop up by mid week in those slots.

it makes no sense to use movie theaters to send a message when movie numbers are declining and everyone including dogs have their own social mefia account and cellphones.

also i would think you would see more hints of a pre planned lockdown coming from other things like food deliveries stocking up, staffing increasing in er, etc

plus in desantis country here i don't see him playing along with a pre planned lockdown

however you are right its odd imo, but i have never really paid attention to know if its not uncommon practice?

the good news its a quicky type of doom porn and will find out by Friday

Yeah, not all theatres in my city have ONLY this movie but quite a few do.

I don't get it. Why would so many theatres have only this for viewing that week?

Same here in FL. Just the 355 movie from the 6th till the 14th. And from the 14th only some other movie "Scream", till the end of the month.
very strange. Now I haven't seen a movie in years, this certainly doesn't help the idiots trying to save the movie industry.

I usually think op’s like this are off the wall, but this is really strange. In Wisconsin on the 7th, 355.

I am one that doesn’t believe in coincidence. What are the odds? Something is up.

I've checked several in my area (north of Tampa Florida), and almost all only listed The 355 on the 7th.

One theater's website didn't even offer any schedule from the 6th to the 13th.

Welp, I was wrong, I looked at the 10th, appears the 7th only has 355…👀

Also is this connected?….

I don't get it.

I looked at all our local movie theaters, and they're all showing a bunch of movies after Jan 5th. I looked at the 6th, 7th, 8th and 10th, 12th, 13th and it looks like a normal movie schedule to me. I mostly looked at AMC theaters (just because that one was the easiest to search), and I didn't see anyting weird at all on the 5th and beyond.

What am I missing here? Did I not get the memo or something????

ETA - I even went as far as to log in and attempt to buy tickets to Ghost Busters Afterlife, and it showed me all of the available times and prices, when shows were sold out and everything. All I had to do form there was fill in our names, put in my card and I would have been good to go.
