Well, got discharged from ICU just before midnight last night. After a day in General Population, I wasn't doing much except for taking up space so
they cut me loose to go croak or not on my own. They sent me off with a great big bag full of drugs I have to take now at all times of the day and
night. Plus, they also gave me a list of another bag full of drugs they either didn't have at their pharmacy, or things which are OTC, to purchase
myself.
Still pretty sore in my leg and can't really walk, but I'm not complaining...hey, I'm alive, so I'm pretty happy about that! I'm going to try to keep
it that way for a while. At the end of the day, I got no guarantees though.
So there's the update, FWIW. My real reason for posting tonight is something I've been itching to say for 3 days now, but I didn't want to jinx
anything until I was out. This is pretty unreal!!...
From the minute I walked into the 1st ER, and all through my time in ICU, and all through the rest of my time at the hospital, not once...NOT
ONCE...did I see one sign, did I hear one word, from every single person I interacted with...not ONE SINGLE thing about covid! Not once! There were
signs everywhere about MRSA, all manner of other safety signs (falls, etc), but not a single person said the word "covid" even a single time. It as
so obviously missing I almost felt like the word "covid' was completely forbidden.
The only time I heard the word "covid" was during my discharge when I was about to walk out the door and my discharge nurse said...
"Oh, BTW, and if
you're interested, here's a barcode coupon to get a free covid vaccination at any of our facilities if you wish."
I didn't pick this network for any other reason than the ER was close and it was in my network.
Is that weird, or what???
ETA - One minor correction. They did require me to take a covid test before the helo ride, but that was the only time I heard the word. At one point
they during intake they asked if I was current on my "immunizaitons". I gave a puzzled look, and they said "you know, like tetanus, polio, flu, etc".
I responded that I was current except for no "flu" shot. They were fine with that. I thought they were headed down the covid road with that
question, but nope.
