SWA isn't going to admit it's a sick out. That would be admitting their policies caused the cancellation.

Not only would it anger the public - it would also mean they would be liable for cancelled flights (they would have to pay for meals and hotels).

My guess someone in some Gov agencies put pressure on the airlines to require vax. Let's face it, the government can selectively enforce many regulations if they want. If they didn't go along with the mandatory vax, good luck to them getting regulatory approval for any new routes or gates and I'm sure the FAA would start to find a million little violations too.

It wouldn't be SWA, it would be the pilot's union. If there was a slowdown it would give the airline leverage in future negotiations.

Airlines are not mandated to do any of that, they each have their own policies and this is often influenced by status and fare class.

If my flight is cancelled, is the airline required to provide me with a hotel room, cab fare, a food voucher, or reimbursement for any other non-airline ticket costs associated with my trip?

No. Airlines are not required to provide passengers with money or other compensation for costs that fall outside of the cancelled airline ticket and fees tied directly to the airline ticket (such as baggage fees, seat upgrades, etc.) when flights are cancelled. US DOT

Unless I'm reading it wrong, they are down to 10% cancelled flights now. Which would seem to indicate it's not pilots walking out.

Do many US pilots fly purely domestic? As otherwise they will have to get vaccinated to travel to other countries - it's just a part of the job. Difficult to believe you've got mass walkouts over it...

SWA flies almost all domestic with some flights to the Caribbean and Mexico.

I have a trip from KC to Houston tomorrow. Still on schedule but I have a lay over in Dallas. I hope I don't get stuck in Dallas and have to live in the terminal like Tom Hanks.

ETA - My flight is with SW. They book primarily SW for all trips at our company.

Being that Hawaii is one of the states in the United States of America it's considered domestic for airline travel purposes.

They couldn't admit that it was a walkout because it might be against some contract stipulation.

It's not something they could keep secret for long

You may be right on that. Thanks for responding to my post.

That's nice, it really has nothing to do with Hawaii actually being a domestic destination.

You a board member for SW, own a lot stock, manage air traffic control?

What is going on here? Why are you defending this so much?

You honestly don’t think something weird is happening here?

Sometimes when things happen, people don’t just say the obvious. SW isn’t going to say it’s pilots are all out sick, or air traffic control all has fevers. So they are blaming weather…

No, I don't, I fly enough to see general airline incompetence regularly and your thinly veiled shill comments are lame.

Lol
Not as lame as twits in ugly hats and pig faced peppermint pattys

The east coast elite calling anyones comments "shill" is rich indeed.

You leaving out the flights to hawaii is hilarious.

The Federal Aviation Administration, which provides air traffic control services, took the unusual step of pushing back against Southwest's explanation. Southwest Airlines was the only airline to report such a large percentage of canceled and delayed flights over the weekend.
