The MOC description on the DD214 of a Top Secret P3 ASW SS1 Seat in the 70's was "Radio Operator".
That bull# caused a lot of problems for those people telling what they did in the Navy, and finding a job.

You have that right. I was going to college in Florida when I was in the Navy. I was taking a Physics class and we were talking about sound propagation through water. I made a statement and was called on it, then I realized that I couldn't say any more because I would be giving out classified info.

i have a few pictures in my house that have little cut out post-it notes over their faces.

I was in a pretty serious relationship when i was in and she knew not to really ask me to much about WHERE i was going and with who

I was in the AF but i worked with a lot of NAVY and Army guys and once with a group of marines, I was attached to special forces units a few times as a medic and forward observer.

i did hear stories of my other buddies going into places we are not welcome at to pick people up that crashed or were captured or risk of being captured.

those things were not even really spoken of or even hinted at.

and honestly the worse injuries i saw(that people live) was a VBIED that hit a check point, i was eating a snack at the time waiting for a buddie and the next thing i l knew i was on the ground and couldnt hear, i was over 100 yards away from the check point.

people think the military is all running and gunning and in reality it is more hurry up and WAIT and WAIT and WAIT.

when you were getting ready to leave did anyone tell you how to explain what you did with out telling them?

all i was reminded of was the secrecy oaths i had signed and not to disclose names or locations and equipment and basic stuff like that.

i had a job interview with Verizon for a cooperate relations job. And they guy obviously knew i was in the AF and was a medic but couldnt wrap his head around what a pararescue was.

at the end of the interview when we were just chatting he asked me if i ever killed anyone....

if i had a $ for every time i have been asked that by a stranger i would have a bunch of dollars.

My brother does the morning briefings for some people up the chain and he was involved in a drone strike a year or so ago and just him being part of it and watching the video after the fact totally wigged him out.

he thought he was ready and willing to take someone's life and he almost quit when he saw what the drone did to the house/people

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
back on topic do you believe the Chinese explanation of them hitting a 'surprise' rock formation?
i will have to check it out but i have never seen a sub on sub collision looks like, i would think even at a slow speed it would crumple both of the subs and more than likely sink them.
what ever they hit wasn't hard enough to puncture both hulls or seemingly cause SERIOUS damage because it could get its self back to Guam under its own control.
I would think if there was a collision with a Chinese sub they would be yelling all over the news about how America attacked a sub.
I'd bet on a water logged cargo container floating at a certain depth.
I was 18 years old fresh out of training. Got sent to Turkey to wait for my carrier. It got delayed by Grenada. Then the Marine Barracks was hit and I got sent to the JFK and rode Medevac flights transporting the injured from shore to the JFK and Mercy (when she got there)
Charley and Penroc, thank you for your service
I wonder if it did hit a Chinese sub and Beijing don't want to talk about it
ditto Moscow
maybe they have rogue oil rigs and want them kept secret.
maybe some rich business person with *friends* in Beijing has those oil rigs.
Or maybe a underwater drone once launched or deployed went into a senior moment, floundered for a bit like a confused person, was stealthy enough the sub tendering it didnt exactly have its exact location and banged into it. Usa build extremely stealthy AI controlled submersible drones and launching them in the south china sea...naaaw not a chance wed ever do that. And mishaps never happen.
i didn't even think of that.
i don't know if it is true or not but apparently there is a pile of plastic junk the size of Texas floating somewhere in the ocean
with sonar if you could make a semi solid drone that was mostly water(think weather balloon but for water) would it pick it up seeing as it is mostly water.
there has to be materials transparent to SONAR that you could make some sort of rigid device.
you being a sub mariner should be more than happy to shoot the shiz with a fellow service member and help enlight4en them a bit, but you just want to put others down.
Honestly, you are getting the same treatment submariners would give any other submariner. It's called being a NUB (Non-useful body) and part of the training process to open up their minds and learn to do research so you don't kill yourself or your fellow shipmates. It's basically life/death type stuff for us.
No. But. No matter how humble and honorable your service was. Your not acting honorable now with false accusations of stolen honor / valor. And not very understanding of military personnel that served with security clearances who signed none disclosure agreements being mindful of the personal information they post on a public forum that in all actuality is monitored by Russian / Chinese disinformation agents/intelligence.
While you have posted some ridiculous notions about submarine operations.
im not in the military any more
and i started our conversation respectfully and shared what i did
telling someone what you did during your service isn't a state secret and is NOT a way to ID anyone or dox anyone
and when someone calls me dead weight i have the right to a rebuttal of a baseless accusation of my character
I don't disparage anyone on a sub but i don't think it is equal to real fighting, real dying, dealing with the enemy face to face sometimes.
just like i don't think someone that cooks is the same as a doctor, both needed and important jobs but only one of them can be done by ANYONE
and what i posted isn't bragging its just the truth, if you think its bragging its because deep down you know it important.
You should learn to retain what you read. If that’s what you took from that, then I’m just wasting my time.
also i was in the air force not the navy so how does what happens on a sub apply to me?
its apples and oranges
You wouldn’t do well in the face of submarines favorite underway pass time. Pushing people’s buttons.
I have nothing to prove, and I get to choose what I feel comfortable in sharing that isn’t part of the none discloser I signed. And its not going to be dictated by anyone on a public forum under some pretense of false authority.
Good luck to you.
Nope never called you dead weight, which is why I said you should retain what you read because now you’ve rubbed me wrong and so I’m gonna bow out too. I also never said you haven’t dealt with life/death situations, which compounds the reading comprehension issue. Unsure why you got all hostile all of a sudden…oh well.
that is why i listed some of my more usefull times i spent during my enlistment.
neutronflux
your right if they talk shlt to someone who is a more than likely higher ranked person and someone who gave everything they had to the military including a few friends, your right there might be a problem.
Usually submariners are very happy to talk about what their job was and what boats they were on as long as it isn't classified
you even called me a fracking spy.
how do you think i should act?
calling someone in the military or someone who is a vet a spy boarders on fighting words. You think i would betray my country and than expect me to throw rose peddles at your feet.
