I checked a couple out earlier. Aiomi ( I think, or close to it ) and a tool from Partition Magic called "minitool" ( again, I think ).

Both were around $50 and at that price I'd just as soon reformat and reinstall. My games save states have value to me but not at that level.

If you have a PC manufactured after 2015 , you most likely have TPM 2.0
TPM 2.0 is a BIOS setting , which adds security (boot).

All I will say, is this is a forced update I will break my machine.

Everything I've heard about 11 is horrid. Too much.

But we shall see.. I may get the iso and test it in a vm, but I won't be using it over my current 10 os.

took me too long to fix all the # they got wrong with 10 in the first place.. :/

Not a forced update .
Microsoft will support Windows 10 up to sometime in 2025

Turns out there is a tool baked into all Windows 10 builds from 1903 onward called mbr2gpt.exe. Fantastic!

No fuss, no muss.....

I to have the certs and what not, but honestly, if you can't repair a registry from a failed update in Win10 that left the system unbootable, I do not trust you.

You replied to the wrong member.
I have pulled myself out of issues that would cause nightmares to other folk.....

I not only have reported issues. , but let em know how I fixed it.

I have recovery software that can convert MBR to GPT and vice versa.
It's paid for but also not to expensive?
I'd trust that over mbr2gpt any day...

MBR2GPT from an elevated command prompt is almost foolproof .
You want to do a
mbr2gpt /validate
before trying top convert .

Is it free to licenced users of any of the windows releases or just 10?

I for example never upgraded from 7, but would be willing to try 11 if it's free.

For now the word is Windows 7 and 8(?) have to do a fresh install.
But it is free to upgrade .

10 didn't have an "Insider" program until almost a year later.

There's a pretty easy way to get it to install on old hardware. I'm running windows 11 on a 2009 core 2 duo gateway laptop with 8 gigs of ram. Fresh install. It runs very well.

I know what you are talking about...

NO , just NO.

I figured, you've never sounded like a layman or anything.
Also figured you'd be well versed. I've fixed issues on a boatload of Windows 10 machines, 7 as well.

The documentation for 10 was always terrible, I appreciated times when MVP's like yourself provided solutions, but they were few and far apart.

How's your experience with OSX or Linux Distro's?

Just sounds like you have bias due to experience...
Nothing personal.

I am no MVP.
(some would debate that , I guess)
Just an average person , who works hard just to be an average person .
And helping when and where I can.

Dont touch it for a few months, wait for the first service pack, or major update and see what folks are saying.

Remember, a fresh clean install of ANY operating system is best compared to an upgrade, especially if youve been using it for a while...AND do not upgrade to it if you have upgraded the OS before.

Yes , for business.
Why ?
Most MIS/IT personnel finds it is much quicker to do a backup of data and start fresh with an image server.
Although , it is not better for the employee or client.

I have no option to check for win 11 on any of my computers. As far as Windows 10 goes, it's the best, most stable OS I've ever used.

My concern with the direct storage scheme is the wear on the SSD. Myself, I have every app and program offloaded to a memory chip, videos, documents, downloads, pictures, apps and installed programs and let me tell you everything loads so fast it's amazing.

Check the maximum TBW from the manufacturers site.
Run CrystalDiskInfo to see the remaining percentage of writes left .
Research the term "over-provisioning" an SSD drive .

We have found stacking in-place upgrades on top of upgrades causes alot of issues, like Permissions, hardware drivers and some older software.

A recent upgrade from build 1909 to 21h1 was the worst (but theres some updates that are just bad standing alone)

Depends on what you consider good for the customer.

In our environment the tribe owns the PCs and data, so if theres a issue, its faster and simpler to swap it out for a freshly reimaged system(or taking it and reimaging it in under 2 hours with a server instead of farting around with some ambiguous errors.)

I find most people with PC problems would rather you just fix it ASAP than sit around troubleshooting - especially in a hospital with docs and nurses..

Just in case for the record, our site had 300+ beds and not once have we been hit to the max with C19, and no dewormer overdoses lol

I have no idea what you're talking about. It runs fine with an SSD, better than it did new. You must be one of those people who throws away good money on the latest and greatest.

I know the story exists that SSD's wear out quicker than an HDD, but has anyone ever worn out an SSD, step forward now please
