I think if enough lava flows into the Ocean it's dangerous as hell and I'm pretty sure that wind behavior is factored in to the risk assessment like you said.

Nobody knows what exactly will happen here but I'm praying that the locals have their bugout bags ready.

What happens to the void left in the magma chamber from the escaping/ejected magma. ?
Or is the magma chamber overloaded and just letting off some excess. it'll settle down eventually i suppose.

Steam dissipates quickly. It's much heavier than air. This is why people get burned so badly from steam, the super heated vapor falls quickly onto the nearby victim.

Ugh...steam burns are worse than grease burns. Seen plenty of both and had some minor ones of both myself. One of the most instantly painful things that ever happened to me.

Good point, looking at a volcano as a pressure release system. Then when it settles back down shouldn't it collapse a bit at least.

Bit of a landslide going on ATM covering one of the vents, amazing watching it melt that rock.

You would think that's what would happen.

Maybe when it ejects the magma from under the surface, what was once below is now on top, cancelling out any noticeable slump/collapse?.

You got that right. My dad always joked with me and told me to be friends with the shortest person on the site, that way if he fell out, I'd know to run. The second worst part of fracking, for me, was having to shave my face before going on a well with H2s. The worst was the wet cotton gloves when it was 33F and raining outside and lost feeling in your hands.

Lava hitting the Ocean I'm told:

Twitter clip

Found this while searching for the other. It gives a better explanation of why a tsunami could be caused.

**Before the volcano nerds zoom up to me on their Segways to tell me how wrong I am and that a tsunami isn't coming, I'm not saying one is, it's JUST a 9 year old video**

Some places have become large sinkholes due to the magma leaving an empty cavern. That's what the concern over a tsunami is on this one. Too much emptiness, land caves in, causes a quake on its own, land mass goes into the Atlantic.

I'm not ruling it out but when some clown wanders in here being snarky about doom porn tsunami scenarios then they can just piss off.

Like you, I'm watching this closely because nothing is off the cards right now.

That sucker is steadily pumping still... Can't wait for nightfall, it seems to pull the worst (best) out of this volcano...

It really does seem like a lot of indigestion.

I can relate.

Yeah noted that, does that happen with all volcanos? is it something to do with the moons pull and tidel lock etc?

and @everybody who has tonight's live feed? im just settling down for the night i literally fell asleep to the sound the other night so relaxing

Been watching the Afar TV stream for 3 days (almost) straight now. yesterday I watched when the giant boulder in front of the small vent melted away within minutes and how the vent exploded, causing another lava stream. As sorry as I am for the people of La Palma, it was amazing to watch!

As for a Tsunami... Just watched the docu 'mega tsunami' on youtube, it's said to have won an award.
The info in it is pretty well explained. It could happen, it's expected to happen one day, so I hope this is not the one

Apologies for being late to your response. Here's the best livestream I've found regarding this volcano.

I can't say it happens with all volcanoes the way I've seen it happen with this one, but the only other one I watched on livestream was the Iceland volcano. It was significantly anticlimactic compared to this one.

ETA: As far as streaming this to your television... I've been doing that every night and it sounds unbelievable with surround sound, especially when it has an explosion.

Good news is that if you're still in Belgium then you won't have anything to worry about if a tsunami were to happen. I wouldn't either since I'm in NW Louisiana.

I'm watching the channel you just posted, and this one with a side view

About an hour ago you could see a new vent opening right in the middle, still very small.

What would happen if the 'walls' between two vents should collapse? Would it make the lava stream wider/faster?
