They’re already considering shutdown of airport due to ash….so you would need a boat to bugout proper!

I think the chances of a mega tsunami are almost nil with this (now) eruption....It will most certainly happen in the next 5000 years which is nothing in terms of the geological timeline.

Yep that would suck. If the roads were covered in lava and no way out but either air evac or grab a boat from the shore.

They got about 3 more hours of light left. Maybe we will get a good fireworks show tonight!

A lot of YouTube videos showing the eruption. So far just a minor eruption, no landslide, no tsunami. Hopefully this is releasing pressure and will help prevent a larger more violent eruption.



Obviously this is now a Red Alert level.

Does anyone speak spanish? I wondered what that volcanologist just said in the interview?

Among other things, he said that he was surprised by the type of eruption, as it looked more like a Hawaiian type than a Strombolian type, apparently that what they were expecting.

When questioned about the possibility of the lava reaching the ocean, he said that there wasn't any danger, as it would only turn the water into vapour, creating big clouds of white water vapour.

The number of "mouths" opened are, apparently, not really a surprise, only an indication that the lava accumulated was close to the surface on a relatively large area.

That's what I remember.

When they panned out from the eruption, I could see a number of houses and what looked like a small city.
I hope they have a good plan for evacuations. It's just not the lava but the ash, smoke and fire.

Yeah, it probably won't be a mega Tsunami but I would worry if I was on the West coast of Africa or Europe. Not a good time to go to the beach.

If they need to leave the island (I doubt, it's big enough to keep safe from the volcano without leaving it) they just have to go to another island on the Canary archipelago, they are 8 main islands.

At worst they would be taken to mainland Spain, no need to change of country.

They just said that everybody in the area has been evacuated.
