I clearly remember three Winterland shows. Traffic, the Almond Brothers, and a benefit for the California Marijuana Initiative. The latter included Hot Tuna and Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks. It was awesome. I think.

Winterland, it got to where we would buy tickets (3 bucks) without knowing who was playing. Nasty, awful, scary part of the city.

All good bands to see no doubt..Traffic and the Allmans would of been very cool!

It's a bummer when you can only recall that it was good.

Possibly this...
Drumming box
A cajón (Spanish: [kaˈxon]; "box", "crate" or "drawer") is a box-shaped percussion instrument originally from Peru, played by slapping the front or rear faces (generally thin plywood) with the hands, fingers, or sometimes implements such as brushes, mallets, or sticks.

Yeah I will probably get on in the future. They are so versatile & I have much severe arthritis in the hands
& always wanted to learn guitar so just got an extremely nice one., but Bloody Hell miss me drums!!!
Took a break after we were 2 slots above Alanis Morsette's "Jagged Little Pill" when she won the Grammy
& the manager was also agent & record owner & yeah too many conflicts of interest, things got nasty. Took a break went back to school & into Vet med...still had all contacts to go back to music but decided I was extremely lucky to have made it that far in the music world. I then became so infatuated with sheepdog herding & working with exotic animals.

I play all styles & read music...but favorite playing is Big Band, Jazz & Heavy Metal cz we get to bloody play instead of counting many rests or pages to play a snare drum roll or ding a triangle...did homework during symphony.

Best Drummer Bonham! Love these guys E.S. Posthumus ...have a favorite track but sorry so late have to up in 4 hrs to work me dog...

Cheers
Ektar

Not good. Awesome.

Traffic went to like, 3AM? I did get good and sweaty. Felt a soft hand brush my back but was too into the music to turn around. Guess I screwed that up.

Dave Mason sat in toward the end of that one. Last number was Gimme Some Lovin'. Carlos Santana joined in for that.

Huh. Seems I remember more than I remembered.

Yes, it was one of those.

Best drummer, hard to say. I have a sentimental attachment to Spence Dryden. And Jack. And Jorma.

'specially for a kid who was only 18,
18 years old! Yeah!

(see lyrics above, slightly altered)

That's why we bought tickets for the next weekend even though we didn't know who would be playing.

I did watch Amp, but honestly I only had a few EDM bands from that era that I liked. Aphex Twin, Klokwerk, Crystal Method... I guess Prodigy applies, too... dont recall NIN ever getting Amp playtime, but they could have. Maybe before Deadmau5 was around?

Honestly, EDM is the only genre that's better today than when I was a teenager. Excision is literally like musical crack to me... gotta have a hit of it a couple times a day or withdrawls begin.

MTV went in cardiac arrest for me in 95 or 96 when the #canned Headbanger's Ball. MTV full out died to me a couple of years later when they stopped putting out new episodes of Beavis and Butthead.

I haven't watched any music TV cable since with the exception of VH1's That Metal Show followed up by a couple hours of metal video goodness.

I don't watch it very often, but MTVClassic still shows alot of the good ol' 80s-90s videos.

As long as he doesn't try to sing.

Obviously, the instrumentals are where Leo shines, but every now and then it's nice to hear a little bit of vocals.

I've always been quite fond of this one.
Leo Kottke - Pepe Hush

No singing on 'Mr Fonebone' though
Leo Kottke - rare Australian TV performance and interview (1983)

There are still a ton of mind blowingly talented musicians, songwriters, producers and recording engineers making music in every genre. If you haven't heard it, that's on you. I am a millenial and I love old motown, R&B, classic soul, classic country, classic rock, bluegrass, etc., but I also love newer music too. There is a great scene in nashville pumping out spectacular music right now (and I'm not talking about that radio country garbage).

Yes there are still some out there, but it takes a lot of searching. That misses the point.
Those greats used to be out front for everyone. Look at all the links just posted here, and we all loved them even though
it wasn't our style, but we could appreciate the musical genius. I can't do that with a lot of today's popular music, like what is on the VMA's.

I've dabbled with recording and producing music, so when I hear a really well produced piece of music, I appreciate the heck out of the skill (and genius) it takes to create such euphonious soundscapes. There have always been artists who couldn't play any instruments, and a huge roster of "hired guns" who executed those insane backing tracks on all the songs we know and love from the 60's and beyond. I don't love Justin Beiber's albums, but I think there is definite musical genius in the background. Whether or not you appreciate the genius is more of a personal experience, and different for everyone. I know old guys who "hate" all rap music, but to me, they lack the ability to discern the nuances of the genre. Same thing was true for Jazz music in the 20's and 30's. I don't care for american football, for example, and I don't have the ability to tell a good QB from a bad one.

I can't wait for Vigilant Citizen to do an article on this years VMA's. I love their yearly occult breakdown of the MTV VMA's.

Yup the VMA's are a music industry ritual and you can easily see who is being initiated and/or being 'sacrificed' if you know the signs... they are pretty blatant anymore.

I can't watch this garbage anymore. I saw pictures and I just can't. Society is so far gone it's unreal.

LOL....I watched the very first video on MTV....a very long time ago.

MTV is more about "reality" shows....has been for a while.

There is no musical talent these days. The popular ones are all just using mixing board sounds and auto tuning lyrics.

None of them could hold a tune, and most can't play an instrument.

The VMA awards are like the emmys or Oscar's or whatever....no talent.

I dig on my teenager about this all the time with what kids these days listen to.

Would love any headline talent to go against BB King or Chick Corea or Stevie Ray Vaughn or Hendrix or anyone that actually knew music.

Correct terms are template sounds and autotune mixing but yeah youre right
