MTV was so ahead of the curve. Ending music in favor of scripted reality television. Remember Tower Records? Camelot Music? Sam Goody? Coconuts? Heck, I’ve even been in a couple Turtles...and you wonder why there is no music on Music Television.

Turtles was my jam. Coconuts was good, Camelot same....turtles was ahead of its time with rewards stamps.

Well then they should just change the name to...television. Or 'Not-Music Television. Or "Music-Free Tele". Or "If you're looking for music, this is the wrong channel Television".

Tower never knew the value of what they had which was nice when I bought three rare pressings of Prince’s 1999/Little Red Corvette Picture Disc 45’s paid $15 in 1989 in New Orleans. They were worth $125 each back then.

Every so often one of them decides to inject retro into their thing and then they produce something that doesn't sound so bad, but that's because they take an older style or they cross genre with something else and create something original that stands out.

Probably.
Are they on the show?

I have no clue. I stopped watching MTV around Real World and Beavis and Butthead times.

I could absolutely see them doing a show or few promoting sex and tranny stuff though.

Doesn't matter....MTV became crap way before most that post here were born.

I have buddies that bought entire vinyl inventories from Turtles when they closed. Insane how much money those albums are all worth now.

A few got vinyls from US bands that recorded in Japan, mostly punk, that are worth $2k/record. Punk was HUGE IN Japan in the late 80's early 90's.

Some of my better comedy bits was dropping in a song. Tops laughs were Vanity 6 - Nasty Girl, Spice Girls -Wannabe and Culture Club - Do You Really Want To Hurt Me? Although of the three Spice Girls was the weakest laugh.

Never heard of the store. Never was one here, or other places I ever bought records.

I did go to Tower. Preferred smaller record stores though.

First record I bought was The Monkees (saw them at their first concert). Second record I bought was Are You Experienced.

How about you?

It's all gone visual, with noise and light that's why you need to take drugs to listen to it. It really is a #ing mess. The singers don't matter as most of the time you can't hear them anyway which is a blessing.

Ok Thank God, I’m not the only one!
This stuff sounds like bad noise!

The visuals aren’t great either….

It was noisy. Lots of girls screaming in a clamshell shaped arena (a closed clamshell, flying saucer shaped might be a better description) with horrible acoustics. The band was probably lip syncing but couldn't hear them anyway.

At the end Micky Dolenz did a James Brown thing with a guy coming out with a cape and stuff.

Picked up some German releases from a guy that served in Germany and was selling his collection. Lots of Motown artists and a numbered White Album. The Doors Weird Scenes From Inside The Gold Mine (which took a really long time to be reissued to CD) and The Beatles Christmas Album where they just cut up in the studio.

Jimi Hendrix played warm up for the Monkees (not at the concert I went to).
Weird but fun fact.

The thing that bugs me the most is how they have all these alleged 'musical performances' where most of them don't have a single freaking instrument. Some do, but most don't. And half of the few that do have instruments, the musicians playing those instruments are on the back/side of the stage in the dark.

Either way, it's just a dance show. It hasn't been about music for many years.
