Civil War? 1860-1864 (I think the dates are correct?) Southern States attempted to succeed from the Union, war ensues, and all states lose their consitutional right to succeed (apart from Texas)

But that is my point, the US wouldn't allow any States to suceed, so why should China allow Taiwan?

I was thinking in more in recent times, but I've heard talk of this Civil War.

If there is a war with China, i will volunteer. And finish the job my forefathers started. I will do my part in the takedown of Communism.

I have a 14 year old son who says the same thing. Last week Matthew had a few friends for a sleep-over. I overheard them late at night talking about killing communist Chinese soldiers, blowing away Islamic terrorists and cutting the balls off of OBL and his kind......and I almost got a tear in my eye.

Not from sorrow, but from joy!! There are still American Boys with a pair between their legs, who are not afraid of jacking up our enemies. I than went to sleep and slept well........knowing that as long as theres Americans boys like this, our future is safe.

Somehow I missed this one, wow. That's truly scary that anybody could be that joyful over their children expressing a desire to kill. Joyful that your son wants to kill fellow human beings who are just like your son, except were raised in other parts of the world so they have different beliefs? So, somewhere in the middle east or asia there's a father who overheard his son talking about bombing Americans and cutting off their satanic, capitalist heads, and he too developed a tear of joy. Oh, what a wonderful world!

I would very much like to know... as a French Canadian... in what way am I "angry" and "confused"?

Your canadian...to him canadians are angry and confused and since your french you obviosly must be a coward as welll...

I can answer this on my own, Thank You.

My Mom lives in Montreal and I have some family members there as well, so I know WTF Im talking about when it comes to French Canadians.

-Anger. Bring up the name "America" at any French Canadians family party and watch the hatred flow. Ive seen people literally foaming at the mouth trying to express their hatred for America...The only thing that unites Quebec, is their hatred of America.

-Confused: IMO, if you hate America.....as over 50% of French Canadians do, than your morally confused. How can anyone Hate a great nation like ours? We're spilling our blood to kill the bad guys so the good guys can get a chance......freeing millions of woman all around the world.....building schools for the kids...feeding the hungry.

Yeah, we could do more, but at least we're trying! America never stops trying to make the world a better place for all. Thats what makes America a great place....Im so proud to live here. We make mistakes, but we learn and move ahead....always moving forward.

27jd, please don't misunderstand me. Ive read your posts and you seem pretty smart. My point was that its good to see young American men express a litte rage at our enemies. You don't see that much anymore, our wimpy society has tried to pretty much re-press any manhood left in our youth.

Matt is a good boy, he gets good grades and works hard around our ranch. Ive taught him how to defend himself, but he would never hurt an innocent person.

Maybe I did misunderstand. But the way you phrased it, it seemed as though the thought of your son killing brought you joy, and it certainly provided fodder for those who try and portray all Americans as imperialist warmongers. I understand that you are proud that your boy is ready and willing to fight for this country, but IMO nobody should ever be enthusiastic about killing or war. A tear of joy would come to my eye if, when my son gets older, I hear him talking about being ready to aggresively defend this country if needed, but hoping it never comes to that.

This is where you are wrong. Hate America...I don't think so. Hate American foreign policy? Yes, absolutely. Most of the world hates American foreign policy... Most of the world hates BushCo. But does America ever wonder why?

Yes, America makes mistakes...but doesn't seem to learn from them. Keeps making the same mistakes over and over. Dealings with corrupt foreign leaders who suddenly become the enemy when they no longer do America's bidding.

Move forward? Yeah - 3 steps forward, 4 steps back. Over and over.

I am afraid for your son. Most of the miseries of this world are caused by war. Sometimes they're needed. This latest certainly was not. You would be glad to see your son sacrificed for a farce of a war that is more about lining the pockets of BushCo. and friends and getting and keeping a foothold in the middle east than about keeping America safe.

Obviously you get your news from Fox. Now what was it that Ann Coulter said - "we should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert the people to Christianity..."

Your rhetoric is so ridiculous it makes me want to cry because I know there are a lot more out there just like you. Its positively frightening.

Max,

Your "troops" are spilling the blood of anyone who crosses their gunsight. Be they Iraqi, British, Italian or whatever.

The concept you have to grasp is that whilst the USA is a great idea it is continually mismanaged by evil and weak men.

I do not hate the USA and I most certainly do not hate Americans what I hate is what is done in your name.

Cheers

- No not much of it seems to.

The rest seem to go along with this beguiling childish nonsense that it is actually all just a 'hatred of America and Americans' rather than a (practically global!) deep suspicion and dislike of much of US foreign, economic and 'defence' policy.

- I can't help thinking it has a lot to do with a fairly typical loud paranoid response by people who know their views are not actually widely held - even within their own community/nation - at all.

They barely managed to get 50%+ in their recent election, not all of whom are rabid-right Bush-fans at all.....

......and that was only out of the slightly over 50% who actually came out to vote!

If it's all so 'self evident' and such widely held 'orthodoxy' how come they can only persuade a minority of their own countryfolk that that is so?

So I guess the loud diet of infantile jingoistic moaning about the French, Germans - basically Europeans in general - not being prepared to be utterly subservient to US interests is a handy distraction.

It seems the last thing anyone is talking about is how come huge sections of US society have detached from the political process and how dangerous this ultimately is for US society.

Sminkey,

Correct.

Those who voted for Bush are actually only just over 25% of the US population.

Another interesting fact was that over 120 million people voted, only 114 million votes were counted and Kerry only lost out on the popular vote by about 5 million votes.

Then we look at Florida again and see that at least 400,000 voters were removed from the voters roll and we see that things could have been so different today.

Cheers

- You are probably also aware that the exit polls were only 'wrong' in the electronic voting areas.

I have also read that there was a noteable gap between the Bush vote for the Presidency and the 'side votes' they hold in the US at the same time.

We are meant to believe that these unexpected masses of Bush voters turned out, voted for him as Pres but then either left and did not vote on the other propostions etc etc or effectively voted for the 'Democrat' side of the fence.

That and the manipulation of the mostly black vote (as you reminded me in Florida there) is particularly disgusting.

Naaaaa, they can dress it up however they like but I think most of the world (barring the Bush fan-base) know he is a 2-time illegitimate Pres.

Thank God it's them that is stuck with him.....

.... and God help the rest of us.

Still, the wheel always turns.
