Like Pompeo said, the Taliban knew, and were told, they would be crushed if they did not abide. There were rules to the pull out and for Biden to blame that policy when he is removing so much is a joke in itself. The Taliban saw what happened in Iran. Syria. 45 fulfilled his promises to wipe ISIS/ISIL off the map. Moved the embassy.

Anyone could have handled this better. Anyone. 46 screwed this up and I cannot believe there are actually people that are OK that the Taliban are now in charge of a country.

Alexander the Great of Macedonia did a good job. Cleopatra was a direct relative down the line.

Lawerence of Arabia had workable solution...but there was no follow up and removal of the guns. It was sorta lampshaded in Star Trek TOS Friday’s Child and again strongly in A Piece of the Action.

Imteresing. But, his empire collapsed in civil war after his death. Once the force is removed, the conquered revert, It would be extremely rare for a conquered nation to continue the empire willingly after.

Better in what sense? Maintain the government put in place by the US? No one could do that. Not without the Afghani forces, being a proxy army, continuously supplied and supported by the US. Like Rome, we stay their forever or we let it collapse, that is the only choices.

I read somewhere it is their intention to bring back
sharia law.I wouldn't hold my breath on how they are
going to treat the women and girls until it actually
happens.Right now,I am not very optimistic.

The promised air support would have been more than enough.

Taliban would cease to exist in less than a week of out in the open like their recent attacks with U.S. air support.

Turkey shoot.

It is exactly why Taliban didn't try it until air support was withdrawn.

joe did this.

Intentionally.

Could still fix it if he wanted to.

He does not.

Depending on whether or not you could trust the intelligence
being reported to Trump. It is my opinion,he would have started
to evacuate American citizens before moving out our troops.

It was in the news today, Taliban terrorist are lying down the Sharia rules for women and littler girls.

Meanwhile Taliban terrorists claims 11 thousand Americans were left behind, China biden response? he gave the Taliban billions in tax payer money, in the name of equipment, military weapons and drones.

Then send a fruit basket with a congratulations note. And a promise of more tax dollars to build their terrorist network and invite the Alqueda to join them.

Then he told them that he has open the borders so they can come to America and visit.

Yes this my understanding in a sarcastic way of how the crap came down.

Sadly all this young women were not born under the Sharia rule and now they will be submitted to slavery and ownership of men to do whatever they want with them as second class citizens.

This what Democrats are doing to Afghanistan

Really? Where were the Taliban during the occupation? They were in their tribal territory in Pakistan. Their territory and tribe is split by a border. A border they ignore. You think you are going to root out a tribe. Not unless you kill half of the Afghani population. But, believe what every you want.

Not possible when hiding in tribal territory.

Not even challenging when out in the open for large attacks like what we just witnessed.

Turkey shoot.

Only thing causing it to take more than a few minutes is all the trips back to base for reloading.

Dream scenario.

Think desert storm.

Not quite as out in the open as iraqis, but a lot less armor and air defenses.

And a much smaller enemy force.

Desert storm was 30 years ago.

We are much better at everything now.

(Except joe)

Taliban isn't a tiny fraction of the challenge iraq's forces posed.

Out in the open for attacking?

Turkey shoot.

Killed as quickly as we could rearm planes.

Technically speaking, the US is one of the oldest continuous government on Earth. Russia was a monarchy until the USSR and then only lasted not quite 80 years. Germany was just reunified in October 1990. England had many reformations after WW2 and just became fully independent January 2020 from the EU. Afghanistan is but the newest nation due to regime change in a ten day blitz.

If it was true all we needed was airsuppourt why did we have our troops there so long?

That is one of the problems with the United States' modern army, they really think that air support, smart missiles and drones can solve the problem. It still always comes down to boots on the ground, just as it always has.

Protecting Afghan citizens as best we could.

Basically by just being there and daring taliban to pick a fight so they could be located and killed.

Which they rarely did.

Troops haven't done much more than that and training ANA for many years.

When hiding among non combatants in tribal territory our airpower isn't very effective.

Slightly better than useless.

Is why taliban survived so long.

If out in the open for attacking bases & cities like they just did?

Turkey shoot.

A commanders dream scenario.

Iraq lasted a few weeks with more than 10 times the manpower and far better equipment.

We are even better now.

Just a matter of reloading time.

And joe.

Believe what you want. The troops we trained would have still dropped their weapons just like they have now. Air support, no air support. They didn't even fight really. If they did fight they were overwhelmed and would always be overwhelmed.

I get it your a partisan, you want to believe your party would have been successful. It's just not reality.

Nothing about party.

Nothing about anything but common sense, the opinion frequently stated by actual pilots and commanders, and well proven, repeated, military history.

Hell, even bin laden and previous taliban leaders have said exactly the same thing.

Why else did taliban hide in tribal areas when we had barely any troops there for many years?

Why not attack the many barely defended bases and cities?

Duh.
