People need to get off the internet, go take a walk, maybe go to a party and talk to some real life people because I think the anonymity factor of being online disassociates posters from recognizing they probably have more in common with who they are speaking with than not in common.

Look how interupt42’s thread went last week, asking people to hold their own side accountable, it turned into “Well the Democrat liberal socialist communist....”, and then the never-Trumpers coming in to defend their people. The exact thing the thread was about was displayed brilliantly throughout.

Well I am a Christian so I strive for sanctification and don't give up.
But even non Christians must see the usefullness in finding the common ground over a civil war, .... right?

Careful, sounds like you could be "inciting" people to break Covid quarantine rules.
I am.

Unity only works when majority work to create unity. It can't be a pocket here and a pocket there. Where we go one we go all type of mentality is needed. Unfortunately as long as the majority continue to be keyboard warriors instead of taking real action, it'll never happen. Every one individual wants unity but not one individual can do it by him or herself. Sure, one person can make changes and hope for it to trickle along but at this point we don't need a trickle, we need a dam break.

How do you compromise with people whose entire ideology is rooted in the idea of no compromise?
I have no issues coming to the right on certain things. I’m still searching for that mythical Republican who will move to the left on issues.

I used the word unity deliberatly but now see it was a mistake
Discourse nowadays is absolutely filled with linguistic landmines. Intentionally, imo, but thats neither here nor there. Makes things tricky since some of the most important concepts already have defined narratives.
Id say one of the greatest shows of unity in history is the Constitution and Bill of Rights.
It doesnt mean agreement on literally everything.. Its about identifying core principles that apply universally and then figuring out specifics as we go.
I believe modern technology enables us to now examine how we might go about that same foundational process, but with aspects like food, energy, and manufacturing. Rather than any specifics though, I think most time, focus, energy, and resources are poured into either corporate-political ideological purity or a return to an illusory rose-tinted (recent) past.

And to anyone complaining that unity is impossible because the Democrats this or the Republicans that, I'd advise you follow the link (or in the very least read) my OP regarding the reunification of Rwanda. If people whose families were slaughtered were able to find peace with their enemies, we can too.
There is reason to be skeptical. The former New York Times correspondent Howard French, who covered West and Central Africa, noted that Rice seems to have taken the view that the best U.S. policy was to “look the other way” as Rwanda and Uganda went to war. Rice later consulted for Kagame’s government when she was out of office, and gave him diplomatic cover when she was at the United Nations.
“After delaying for weeks the publication of a United Nations report denouncing Rwanda’s support for the [Rwandan-backed rebel group] M23 and opposing any direct references to Rwanda in United Nations statements and resolutions on the crisis,” The Times’s Helene Cooper wrote in 2012, “Ms. Rice intervened to water down a Security Council resolution that strongly condemned the M23 for widespread rape, summary executions and recruitment of child soldiers.”
