Yeah, the small coffee shop I patronize had to close down for 14 days because of COVID staffing issues. I have no idea what kind of hit they took over that, but when you think about the loss of business on top of the goods --- like the milk and other things they can only keep for so many days -- it couldn't have been small.

Now, once they opened, there was no appreciable hit that I could determine in their patronage, but it's not like those 14 days were a small hit.

And now imagine restaurants who were forced to close for dine in for over three months in the spring...including Easter and Memorial Day.
And now they are closed again, the three weeks ends tomorrow....we'll see what TPTB do.

Take out does in NO way replace the lost income to the owner, or the wages lost to employees.
It is especially hurtful because MOST other businesses are open.

And in further dismalness....
www.michigancapitolconfidential.com...

The number of small businesses still open in Michigan has fallen by 35.8% since January. This means the pandemic and government responses to it have forced more than one-third of all small businesses here to close their doors, with many likely to remain closed permanently.

That’s higher than the national average of 28.9%.

That is a massive number, and i no way could citizens afford to fix this government sponsored killing of business.

No, the business weren't destroyed to protect me. I was never in any danger. I didn't close anything. Business will adapt and new businesses will open.

This is the way.

Who exactly is trying to pressure anyone out of anything? That would be a tax and that's what government does.

Let me ask you this. When government fails us, who do we turn to if not ourselves?

You should start a thread on that.

You're being really evasive here. I take it your savings account is not in fact empty and is growing, as well as still shoveling money toward big Big Box companies instead of mom & pops.

If you're going to talk the talk, walk the walk. Otherwise it's just mouth noise.

Here the businesses with food in danger of being wasted, donated it to food banks. They did so without hesitation and some even prepare meals for those in need while they are shut down.

Awesome. I do the same thing every year, and even put a nice stash of canned goods that I grew/shot away for the holiday food banks.

Doesn't change the fact that it was still a hit. It was food that could not be translated into product whatever they ended up doing with it.

Well when government fails, business will start up again because government won't be able to effectively oppress it.

Why do you insist on making a general discussion a personal attack? No, my savings were gone months ago. 35 years down the tubes. I have a single employee left and I'm paying his rent for him. It's off-topic but I'm not inclined to let a stranger sit and slander me for fun online.

One thing I do, that everyone can do, is buy as much as possible from locally owned small business. You?

I spend my workdays talking to business owners and managers, so I have a good idea of what's happening.

If a business closes due to a government order to protect the public, the public should immediately reimburse them, and their employees out of their pockets. They should be made whole and made whole quickly.

I talk to businesses all day long while working, and the damage is way worse than people realize. Many are not public facing businesses and are not visible, but they are being destroyed. All to protect other people. The idea that so many will end up destroyed with no compensation is crazy.

Many businesses I talk to have had a normal year and some even have had increased profits due to COVID-19. For them it's a big nothing and just an inconvenience. Too many of them however, are telling me they will be closed by February or have already closed. Some owners sound almost suicidal.

Why were they destroyed? To protect everyone else, and let's be honest here, they should be immediately made whole by the people they closed to protect.

Too much attention is being paid to who they are protecting at great personal sacrifice, but little is being said these days about what happens to those who lose it all, in many cases a lifetime of work gone.

I'm only able to post between trying to pay my bills, so be patient if I'm slow to reply.

Note: This is not political so nothing political should be in any reply. Please keep this clean. Pretty Please!

so.....you want people go give money to businesses and receive no goods or services in return? And what about people that have lost their jobs due to covid, where do they get the money to do this? And why should they pay a business instead of paying their rent?

Yes but around the world the keepers do not have the money due the virus and people not attending as I outlined.

Does NOT matter where they are born or how they are innocent and need food which cost money which is not coming in.

I am sooo stressed and sad about what is going on in Amerika, I lost too many friends for What? T0 watch Rome Ver 2.01 burn. When I left I stopped voting as I had no faith in the absentee ballot nor the system I left. Everything that was taught to me growing up allowed me to volunteer with a draft no of 87 which would of happened in time anyway. Every truth or belief is ebbing away with every family threaten by bad behaviour, the murders and the burnings.

Sorry Blaine for derailing not my intentions.

So are you only supporting Restaurants closed to Covid? What about the businesses that were looted and burned having no fault to their owners outside of picking the incorrect locations for their businesses.

If you were King as it were with the funds donated who would you help first..... I know you better than suggesting your favourite bistrol LOL.

N.B. Thank you for not attacking me , I stop writing as a U2U personal docs was only way to save my honour from a public attack. This attack was in older posts and still there if anyone was interested.

Call me a cynic, but after 12 pages as a whole, you took so many pages worth of direct prodding v. deliberate ignoring just to answer as to whether or not you're bothering to actually do what you're commanding here that I'm not particularly convinced. IF it were true, you'd have used your own personal deeds as proof positive in the OP of how committed to the very (willfully short-sighted) idea you peddle. Not wait until you figure out the question ain't gonna die off.

Now 12 pages later, you finally throw out something in effort to "settle it". Ok, right.

As to making it personal, no you did first by being delusional enough to think people outside your bubble can actually afford to shoulder these costs no problemo. How's the weather in Lalaland? Down here in reality, the majority of us are #ing broke as hell. We have zero in savings to fall back on and have not had it since spring. We're looking into pulling from my husband's 401 just to make sure we can actually pay the winter heating bills next month, AND pay the car insurance this month. Also, the Christmas tree may be up, but we're not going to be able to afford anything to put under it unless some small miracle happens. The. Money. Isn't. There.

I'm not so stupid as to look Karma in the face and whine about it, at least we still have a full time job for hubs to keep going to, even when they reduce his hours now and then, a stable roof over our head & food to eat. What we don't have is discretionary spending room. AT ALL. So go ahead and tell me how and where to spend our grocery budget again, Blaine, double dog dare you.

Edit: Furthermore, 95% of our groceries are purchased ONLY via a local grocer, JinMi knows exactly which one because he's a patron, too. So before you start off with your foot in your mouth telling me not to shop Big Chain grocery stores and support the little grocers, we already do and have been for years, I already don't use the bigger chains for primary shopping, Aldi, Meijer and Family Fare grocery fill-in stops up here are explicitly for when we can't GET to that business at that time.
Good luck with any retort.
