Here is the left freely admitting that they can't win in a free marketplace of ideas. If it weren't for the internet, the elites and the main stream mafia would control everything that goes into people's heads. That is far more dangerous to democracy. When Democrats us the word "democracy" they aren't talking about democracy, they're talking about OUR party rule.

Why does this remind me of Scooby-Doo?

Obama,"We would have gotten away with it if it weren't for that pesky internet".

This made me chuckle out loud, thank you sir!

At Least CT's are consistent in their ability to cherry pick data or not tell the full story to create their confirmation bias.

OP CLAIM
"Obama says that the internet is the biggest threat to our democracy"

REALITY

From the OP's source with the parts in bold being the reality of what Obama said which is not that the Internet is the biggest thread to our democracy but hey why does accuracy matter.....

"And again, it’s incorrect to say that Obama is laying the problems of our broken information landscape solely at the feet of Facebook or any other particular tech company. But he is certainly lacing into them now in a way he didn’t do prior to leaving the White House.

Obama: Now you have a situation in which large swaths of the country genuinely believe that the Democratic Party is a front for a pedophile ring...I was talking to a volunteer who was going door-to-door in Philadelphia in low-income African American communities, and was getting questions about QAnon conspiracy theories.

Goldberg: Is this new malevolent information architecture bending the moral arc away from justice?

Obama: I think it is the single biggest threat to our democracy.

HOW IS THIS DIFFERENT FROM THE THREAD SUBJECT

When you get the full story and the context by which it was said it becomes clear that Obama was answering the question asked by the reporter and not about the Internet holistically.

Now don't you bring facts and stuff to this emotional outrage! /s

There are a lot of people who take soundbits for the whole thing on this board, and that is distressing. Look how you jump at a chance to anklebite Obama.

While Trump continues to destroy your democracy.

Man from Europe, if you were from the US you would know it’s a Republic.

A republic that chose democracy as how it would conduct it's republic. You seem to keep missing that part.

I know that ever since the right started losing the popular vote this lil catch phrase starting catching on. Convenient isn't it. Seems like the Reagan era approach of "capitalism is democracy versus communism is unfreedom" has met it's demise with a right wing that is realizing that it won't be able to draw in the minority vote and must then rely on a twisting and cherrypicking of the founding fathers vision in order to desperately cling to a shot at the presidency. After all, when James Madison theorized the idea of 'representative democracy' it was to protect the minority of elite from the "landless masses" who would seek to redistribute wealth. So... it would seem that y'all have it all completely backwards on this one.

All that aside, who cares what the founding fathers thought... they purposefully didn't give a voice to countless people for a ton of messed up reasons, and even tried more forcefully to carry that out under this design. And even to this day so much of the USA is still not represented (democratically or otherwise) and so much of what the people want is not being done. Historically it was the elites that resented democracy (dating back 2000 years)... now they have convinced a swash of the people, the have-nots, to do their battling for them. Congratulations on your loss... and I'm not talking about the presidency.

Sounds like somebody is upset because they can't completely control the national narrative

We've already been told that anything they can't control is extremely dangerous to our democracy -

Negative, you are the one missing the point. Democracy has nothing to do with our government. Democracy is mob rule and nothing less. Presidential elections are decided by the electoral college, not by the people directly. Each state has its own way they give out electoral college votes. Colorado, for example gives its votes to the person who won the nation wide popular vote even if opposite of Colorado votes. How is that democratic for coloradoians? Some states distribute EC votes proportionately most give all to the winner of popular vote in that state. Even then after the election you realize that the individual representative to the college from each state is still free to cast votes however he/she sees fit regardless of the elections. (There was talk of this for Killary last election.) Plus, if the election is not clear, then congress is gonna or possibly the Supreme Court will decide all defined by our constitution.

Way to sidestep every single point (and go into a bunch of unrelated common knowledge) I brought up regarding democracy, the elite, and the original (and historic) design of representative democracy vs. direct democracy. You want what was designed as 'the elites have spoken' as opposed to 'the people have spoken'. Got it. "The people have spoken" is the phrase that we all know... for good reason.

Obama was discussing a media landscape dominated not just by Facebook but by Fox News that allows Americans to choose their own distorted reality. Which means, he says, we no longer have a shared set of facts.

This is just precious. The left. They own over 95% of the corporate "news" media and owns nearly ALL of big tech and social media. They censor, they gaslight, they astroturf, they subvert, they lie. And because not 100% of everything you see or read on the internet agrees with the left's narrative, THOSE OUTLETS ARE A THREAT TO OUR DEMOCRACY.

Let me translate this through my lenses. 4chan is the biggest threat to the corrupt globalist and democrat establishment. Not Fox News. For those unfamiliar with 4chan, there are no restrictions on speech. There are no usernames, no upvotes, no stars, no artificial supports for moral grandstanding. Each post stands on it's own merit. And especially in this post-election confusion, the site is more popular than ever. It does at least 5x the traffic of ATS. And that's why Biden wants to take it off line. Freedom of speech wouldn't scare anyone who doesn't have anything to hide. It's as simple as that.

Eat sh*t Obama.

Remember when the internet with its wealth of free and easly accessible information was supposed to bring us closer together and help level the playing field.

Well I guess big corporations didn't like that idea and are now sending their operatives out to vilify the free flow of information.

It's just that if you asked me ten - fifteen years ago which American political party was the operatives of big corporations I wouldn't have thought it was the Democrats.

Do you understand exactly why censorship is detrimental to a society?

Obama is correct...The internet is a huge threat to HIS democracy...His democracy is communism...For the rest of us the internet is the lifeline that allows us to see what the commies like Obama, Sanders and Biden who want to destroy our Nation are up to...

I wasn’t side stepping. Only the ignorant would even consider calling the us a democracy. Only enemies say “threat to democracy”. If what I brought up is common knowledge, then there should be no discussion yet you still are saying democracy. “Representative democracy” as you put it. It’s a republic. Technically a constitutional republic. But, I will concede that it can be considered a form of democratic republic. But NOT a democracy even a representative democracy. The difference is fundamental to our identity, If you can’t understand that, you have no business commenting on the matter.

No, the internet is probably why we still have any semblance of democracy left at all.

Well say goodbye to that in the not to long future .
Courtesy of Trumps first idiotic mistake of hiring the swamp infested Ajit Pai telecom lobbyist and putting him in charge of the FCC.

The first thing he did was repeal net neutrality . You know the one thing that allowed the internet to become the success it became and allowed us to speak equally to the deepstate controlled MSM. Also the one thing that allowed for trump to beat hillary . While the MSM was painting hilldog as our princess the internet exposed all her corruption.

Well guess what. That is going to come back and bite us all since it gave the deepstate the last thing they needed to control the internet.

Also interesting that they made net neutrality a political issue where it became a left vs right thing. In reality it was never a left of right thing and both party wanted to repeal it. Funny that the left didn't throw net neutrality on trumps face and they became very quite about it after trump repealed it.

Then now you have Obama saying

Obama: The internet is “the single biggest threat to our democracy

Guess what that means? It means they are getting ready to fully exploit the fact that net neutrality was repealed. First they start to hint about it and when they start to hint about it means that the motions are in place. It looks like they are preparing to start with exploiting the fact that trump repealed net neutrality.

It's always about never-ending censorship with these people... yet for some reason they trust the information they get from the MSM without question. I argue the MSM is in fact the biggest threat because they are treated as authoritative sources of information, meaning they essentially have the power to control global consciousness, and they do.

Would you let Walmart dictate your world view? No I didn't think so, because we all understand that businesses care more about profits and generating new customers than they do about the truth. We don't hold back when criticizing corporations when they do the wrong thing so why is it any different for the MSM? Of course the MSM is more than just a bunch of corporations, it's the single greatest tool the deep state has for molding the way people think and the way they perceive the world, and they're well aware of that.

Why the MSM is a threat to society

Someone states there is free speech on the Internet. Darknets maybe and a big maybe that is.

But clearnet? Nope not by a long shot.

Clearnet is as blue as the blue pill from the matrix. Free manipulation it is.

HIS democracy is comprised of a few actors in total control of us lower classes by imposing their will through media. Now that media has a real independent leg, the official narrative at times clearly contradicts with the reality we can all see. That’s a no no.
