Fair enough, but surely you can see the distinction between "The internet is going down" and "outages from a number of sites" ?

My personal rule of thumb is since this is a US-based site (I DGAF that it started UK-side) that when someone posts something like that, they're probably American, and not thinking globally, thus neither should I.

Hang on that was "and then" not "again"

edit on 11-11-2020 by andy06shake because: Your car, that sounds weird. LoL

Aye, agreed. For me the operative message from the OP being "not thinking''. But that's just my opinion.

Good call, it would be interesting to find out the reason.A good question would be does the US Federal government still own the Arpanet infrastructure for which it allows Google to operate, just an unrelated question but kind of related at the same time.

Everyone thinks cutting the US off from the internet & thus rest of the planet is a pipe dream, BUT most people also have no idea what actually happens between the proverbial signal leaving your router, and reaching it's destination.

It's not Point A to Point B, there's backbone stops along the way (think of them as the highway between the local areas on each end)

If you were to ask me how feasible I really think "turning off US internet" is? A lot closer to reality than people realize. Those backbone companies don't answer to you or me.

Never said it was down everywhere never said it wouldn't come back either. Again pointed out easily verifiable information

No more no less, any misunderstanding was due to your jumping to conclusions from "across the pond"

YT is already experiencing outages.

Wouldn't put it past em to pull the kill switch, but they best be ready for hell to open up on their ass.

I’m ignorant to technology. What would a kill switch do? Prevent government probing?

Oh I don't deny the possibility that localized 'termination' of internet exists. I'm sure that is possible for many governments.
What is less feasible to me is a global shutdown of the entire Internet as we know it. That would take massive global co-ordination that in my opinion simply doesn't exist between countries/governments.

So....they are going to Shelter at home without internet? The whole country will go mad.....I guess the government can take complete control if everyone in the country is deemed insane.

If “the internet” was stored on centralised servers in a single place, there might be some plausibility to this. Luckily, that’s not how it works.

See you over the weekend, where the internet will be functioning as normal (with its usual glitches and occasional site outages).

The internet functions on 12 backbone servers.
With a kill switch.
Since Barry was president , ran by a foreign company in an unknown country.
