Adorable.
Don't worry about the naysayers. I'm sure that you won't anyway!
One of my very dearest friends was met right here on ATS, years ago. I love him like family. My daughters remind me of the ever changing world. Social distancing, gatherings being frowned upon or otherwise not permitted, activities and events being cancelled...it only makes sense that some folks would choose to meet and "gather" on line to get to know one another in different ways.

I don't know for sure, of course but, I can imagine that you both had placed "security measures" such as letting someone know where you were, verifying that the other individual was a real person etc. I recommend that to my daughters because there IS so much bad that can happen now a days. I fear for them but, I want them to live too. Experience the world and people because our time here is not promised, IMO. I'm an old geezer though so, what do I know?!

Speaking of Asheville, I just moved my sister from there almost two years ago now. It is a beautiful city, not without the usual problems of course. I know that it's a little boujee but, I love the area around Biltmore Estate for walking and window shopping and some cute little eateries. Douglas Falls for sure for outdoors : )

Good luck to you both!

Hey, could you give me some Biltmore tips?
We had planned on going there last summer but you know what stopped us.

I grew up in Asheville and my family still lives there so I get to go back a few times a year from Williamsburg.

You need to check out Helen's Bridge on top of Beaucatcher Mountain, it's the one that Tunnel Road goes through obviously, the bridge is right on top of that.

As far as Biltmore, the estate itself is a nice tourist trap, but I would recommend the winery for sure. The shops are actually in Biltmore Village which is outside the Estate itself south of downtown on Biltmore Avenue.

I miss it, especially the Fall Colors. I grew up playing war and riding bikes on the Blue Ridge Parkway, which pretty much went through my back yard in Oteen. Any other local questions, feel free to ask!

Have you done one of the guided tours? I hear the behind the scenes tour is worth it?

Cool! A meet up would be awesome. As a side note, I met my GF online (on a seperate site) and on our first date we were talking conspiracy theories and discovered we were BOTH ATS MEMBERS!.... and so is her dad!!!

Needless to say we hit it off in a supernatural way, and would be totally into a meet-up, but we are over on the West coast in Wa. so it would take a bit of planning out. NC sounds great, only drove through once in a hurry and sadly didn't get the chance to stop and enjoy it.

good to see a happy post lately!!!

A long long time ago we did the Christmas tour. Amazing to be honest, but I haven't been on any others. I bet the behind the scenes one would be cool, I'll have to look into that. I'll be back there after Christmas over New Years.

FYI, the Grove Park always hosts the Gingerbread competition from Thanksgiving through the holidays, not sure what the current status is with COVID, but it's usually very cool to check out with the kids, and you can usually see them being built on Food Network, lol.

Lmao.

We were planning on going to the Biltmore, but other things came up. I definitely wanna take Geez there next time.

I've been all over the country. I try to avoid cities though, so fortunately I've never been.

What would your Baltimore tips be?

Yeah I'll second this...went for a friends wedding. The hotel was lovely, and that's about all I can say about the place.

Why?
I’m into old houses, antique furniture and Downton Abby, so I figured it would be right up my alley.

Speaking of alleys in Baltimore, let me give you some reco's on where you can experience HBO's The Wire in real life.

Good point.

Rikku, two.

But I could make it two ATS boyfriends and one more ATS girlfriend if you're interested. I have some ATS girlfriends too, some of the most female of all females of all of ATS who I absolutely adore and worship.

Thanks you!

I told him that even if he was planning to murder me... then I'd be honored to be his next victim. He was speechless, LOL.

But yeah being safe about this stuff is important though, you are on point with the advice. Your daughters are lucky to have you.

That is pretty awesome thanks for the share!

I'll keep you in mind for the next meet up and try to give a decent heads up. I don't know if we will try for Boston again or not, that's where it was supposed to be this past March when covid19 struck. We did go to Colorado one year, amazing times.

Dear ATS in this thread, I love all the positivity.

I have been trying to respond to everybody but I haven't been able to, Jagstorm you're awesome! And to the others, I'm reading everything and appreciating every contribution and laughing at the good meme and stories and triggering jokes and all the travel suggestions. Thank you's! All the love, Lou.
