Simple question...

I don't know the answer.
Sometimes I think yes, sometimes I think of course not.

Perhaps people aren't different and they should all be treated the same.

But if they are different, surely they should be treated differently.

An oxymoron perhaps? Different people, people that are different.

Like my immigrant grandparents....peace!

*Sorry...of course we need to treat all on each level!

Depends on their level of difference I guess , they should be treated as normal unless their level of difference makes that impossible.

It depends on what you mean.

You didn't give enough in your OP to really dig into the meat of your contention.

Let's look at it this way:

There are some stairs. For most people, not matter what they look like or their ethnicity or their religious preference or their gender, they can darn well walk up those stairs the same way. But now let's look at the guy or gal who has lost both legs or is paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair, that's a difference. Do we expect them to climb those stairs?

So I think it depends on what you are meaning with your contention to really start a productive discussion here.

On the level you're digging to, we're all individuals and all different.

This is where we get to equal treatment before the law. If the speed limit says 55mph, then that's what it is, and it doesn't matter one way or another who either of us is, we're expected to hold to it. That's the fairest way to do it because we cannot write a set of laws trying to achieve equity in life simply because we *are* all different individuals. Trying to achieve equity (equal outcomes), ends up in a madness where no matter who many laws you make, some will always be overly disadvantage and others will always be overly advantaged. Equity will never be achieved.

Politicians will love it because they will always then have the aggrieved to pander to and the ones who are too advantaged to point to as the ones to be jealous of who can then be knocked down.

Not true, there was a simple question you refused to answer.

We can definitely make the question convoluted and and any answers we get are useless.

I wanna stick to simplicity.

Simple answer:

You behave like a fool, behave badly, or are just doing nasty crap like thinking you are a baby and wearing diapers and expect to force everyone to speak and act to you as though #ting in your pants is normal (insert any perverted behavior) then yeah. I expect I will treat them differently.

Content of character and actions. That is what I judge people on and definitely impacts how I treat them (or ignore them).

Treating people differently based on skin tone is idiotic.

Are we talking types of people or deeper and about the way their brain works?

Growing up with Aspergers, but not knowing that's what it was, I always felt like my brain processes were always different from others, even repeatedly said by friends I've made through my life.

And I never thought it was bad, in fact I think it allowed me to look at things others were going through and help them see a side that they could never get to on their own.

Do I want to be treated differently or "special" in anyway? No, big no. My biggest want in life, is just to be treated normally, to be given a chance, even if I may prove difficult at times.

Guess that brings up another question, by treating people differently, are we talking about how we should be treating them? Most people who are different, truthfully just want to be treated like.. for a lack of better words, "normal" people.

No, it's not a simple answer. This is why I don't get along with pollsters, either. They want yes/no answers to questions that are for too complicated for that.

"Nothing is more unequal than trying to make unequal things equal" -somebody smart.

I paraphrase as there is some truth to that, however more nuanced than that.

Now, working a door at a venue say a person wheels up in a chair ready to come in. It was my pleasure to greet them, card them make a little small talk and send them on their way no different than any paying customer. It might be a kid with a degenerative disease or an elderly person. Doesn't matter I treated them with the same respect as the person before them in line and the person after.

Now if you want to start giving out trophies to everyone who tries something and are letting boys compete against girls in sports like wrestling that's a whole nother ballgame. There's no "equality" in that and never will be.

Well, when you look at it reaaaaaly simplistically & without all the emotional fluff buzzwords like I tend to do...we already do this on a person-by-person basis. No two people are treated identically, we tailor treatment per individual.

So yeah, treat different people, differently. We're not clones here, I'm sure Biker Bob wouldn't really care to be treated in the same regard as Farmer Joe.
