Maybe even before that, but essentially yes the NPP does not carry much gravitas these days. Maybe the prizes for actual scientific achievement still can.

Trump has had his name put forward it remains to be been if he makes the shortlist.

I'll be surprised if he makes it past the next round. Perhaps the committee feels shame for what they did with Obama but that assumes a lot.

I really do wonder if Obama and Trump could theoretically be tried for war crimes regarding the use of targeted drone strikes.

I think it would have to be indiscriminate attacks on a general population instead of recognized and targeted individuals.

When Obama won it I had high hopes he would capitalize on the good will bestowed on him, he turned out to be a well spoken empty suit who squandered his opportunity and the positive vibe he had going.

Maybe Trump would actually do something with that in his second term.

If peace was always the prize from his perspective but his political opposition bogged him down with internal battles I can understand why it was not more prominent in his first term.

Peace cannot exist in the middle east. Not for more than 1000 days.

Obama and Trump can be tried for the war crime of assassinations.

Assassinations are considered an atrocity, WW1 started with one after all...

Looking at the Nobel Peace Prize as an idealized reward.. I think Trump might have indeed earned it.

His foreign policy is what has surprised, and impressed me the most about him. No new wars (which is absolutely remarkable in context), work with nations like NK & the middle east, attempting to pull our troops home, and accurately identifying and professional handling of major threats to worldwide peace/prosperity (like China, the WHO, and ..fingers crossed.. the UN).

Hes had some accomplishments in this realm of things that are objectively unique and positive, particularly when looking at them together.

Didn't Obama receive it around the time he took out gadaffi sending Libya into a terrorist hot bed.

And begged Congress for war with Syria but was denied?

Or the over time he put in and obsession with closing terror camps and making deals release terrorist.
