To show no disrespect to you I will first explain in my normal mode of communication that:

Second: This is my normal mode of understanding Zen, which I do not understand.

As I contemplate the first and the second above, I see that there is no separate first for the second is the first. They are not two, they are one.

And God said, Thou shalt not be able to see my face; for no man shall see my face, and live.

I actually have a truly awesome story about that. It spans the period of 6 days. But since there are no 6 days, my instantaneous only now story is:

Then two Zen masters paused by the side of the road to poop.

One said:
There is no before pooping.
There is no after pooping.
There is only now.

No prior feeling of pressure.
No relief after.

There is no I,
there is no separate poop.
There is only one.

The second master said:
Leave those words for the students.
I'm going to leave this poop right here.

The two masters then laughed together at their shared joke.

That's exactly how it seems to this ignorant teleological mind.

Now that I think about it: I may not even be reacting to Zen at all.
I may be reacting to Advaita Vendanta, and falsely labeling it Zen.

I truly am ignorant.


My dilemma is this:
If I read something that I don't understand. And then too soon afterword read something which I understand enough to not want anything to do with.
The two get confused into one.
But they are not one.
They are two:
That which I may want to learn,
and that which I've learned enough of to walk away from.

On the assumption that mankind sincerely seeks knowledge, I submit that it is possible for any person to come to resolve the issue God exists or not, with honest intelligent productive thinking, i.e., thinking on truths, facts, logic, and the history of ideas. I see a term Ātman. I'll just quote it.

So lets just say that I am an approximation, an approaching to animist. And animist is sometimes associated with Shamanism. Shamanism has practices. Those practices involve liminal states.

Now that the stage has been set, I can tell the story of the six days.

It happened, that one day I felt that it was time to die.
So I lay on my bed.
I did not get up to get a drink of water.
I did not get up to urinate.
I lay there for 6 days.

An approximation of death(Moksha) then occured.

I quote this story: Life in Those Yesterdays

In that instant time stretches.
Today relived then sloughed away.
Yesterday briefly remembered then gone.
All deeds done and lessons learned
peeled back to drop away
dead skin.

A center spark alone remains
then drifts away.

I suspect that spark is not me
nor is it mine
but rather another's.

What I, as an approximate animist, conclude, is that my true self(Ātman) is the dead skin, lying on the floor. The spark is not myself. My true self is the temporary.

The spark, I relate to what people call re-incarnation. But I don't believe in re-incarnation. There is incarnation only. That spark is not me, nor is it mine. There is no karma attached to the spark. All the karma is mine alone, and is temporary just as my true self is.

I don't know where the spark goes. But if the spark, perchance, may become part of another temporary being (self), that new temporary being (self) is not me. I have no claim on that new temporary being (self) whatsoever.

That is what is real to me in strong enough terms that I may take it to be my actual faith. And like all good faithful people, I recoil from that which is inconsistent with my faith.
